North American P-51D-10 Mustang "Ridge Runner"
Maj Pierce "Mac" McKennon (335th Fighter Squadron / 4th Fighter Group / 8th Air Force)
"Pierce McKennon wasn't just a musician. He was a warrior."
by Thomas McKelvey Cleaver
The [ref]Fourth Fighter Group[/ref] was the successor to the RAF Eagle Squadrons, "The Yanks In The RAF." Initially composed of pilots who either couldn't get in the U.S. flying services to begin with or who flunked out of training, the Fourth went on to become the most successful USAAF fighter group of the Second World War.
In a group full of outsized personalities, from commander Don Blakeslee on down, Pierce "Mac" McKennon stood out. In conversations I've had with 4th FG veterans, be they pilots or groundcrew, Mac's name always comes up. Let Jimmy Goodson's wingman, the late Bob Wehrman, tell you why: Continue>>

Re: Witty Pics!!

Great pics as usual!

I liked the part about "Tiger Rag" and the pint of bitters.

This is a really nice model. The stand is metal and has real heft, good for display or home defense. Look at how the model joins the display stand, by clipping to the exhaust (non-invasive). No holes no mess. Great model, Great paint scheme!

And here's a peak at the real thing. Sorry, it's only pic I had.

Re: Witty Pics!!

Might have to make Ridge Runner my first Witty P-51. Love the 4th! Hope it's not as silvery as I've seen in some pics.

Re: Witty Pics!!

How does the Witty P-51 compare to the Dragon?

Re: Witty Pics!!

This is where I would rank the makers of 1/72nd scale models on a scale of 1 to 10.

Note: Not all of these manufacturers have a common model to compare. I have attempted to average my opinions of each manufactures entire line. This does, however, offer a little bias to the manufacturers with the fewest releases.

Re: Witty Pics!!

Nice pics - thanks for sharing!

Admin, thanks for the scale. I don't have any Wittys, and I've been really tempted to pull the trigger with the Ridge Runner.
