I have already informed Hobby Master about not using sidewinders on CF-104s but you may get them. Like someone else said leave them off. But I was hoping they could come up with a missile pod instead. I have also sent them line drawings showing that the M61 gun shouldn't be on the model and should be faired over. I don't know if it is too late to correct these.

I just was going through some sites and came across this. Check the armament at the bottom of the specs. 2 sidewinders http://secure.warplane.com/pages/air...104_specs.html I also found this "In 1970, the Canadian government decided to reduce the strength of the Air Division to only three squadrons and to relinquish its nuclear strike role in favor of conventional attack by 1972. By January of 1972, the CF-104s had been converted from their nuclear role to that of conventional ground attack. A 20-mm Vulcan cannon was installed, and the fairing was removed from the cannon port. Twin bomb ejector rack carriers and multi-tube rocket launchers were installed." http://www.rcaf.com/archives/archive...-104/index.php

Better to find photos of the actual plane carrying them. I'm suspecting a lot of places where information like that are displayed are just copied from other generic sources. Only those in the know would question its validity.

| Re: Witty is doing the same RCAF Tigermeet F-104 as HobbyMaster Sorry, but the CF-104 never flew with Sidewinders (It's no problem to leave them off). Although the role of the CF-104 was changed from Nuclear Strike to Conventional Attack in 1972 the Vulcan cannon was not installed until 1974 according to the published sources I have. Found some pictures on the 439 Squadron website. Looks like the Canopy frame is indeed supposed to be Silver and NOT yellow and black (at least for the 1972 Tiger meet). (Looks like Witty Wings wins on this point). Hobby Master's painted canopy frame could still be correct but not for the 1972 Tiger Meet. The same aircraft was used for the 1975 Tiger Meet with a different scheme (perhaps the canopy frame was painted like the rest of aircraft for the later tiger meet). In addition by 1975 the Vulcan cannon would have been installed (not installed until 1974) and would not be a mistake on the model (Witty Wings shows the Cannon port but this would not be correct for 1972). Perhaps Hobby Master should retitle their release as a 1975 Tiger Meet representation as the Cannon port and Painted Canopy frame would be correct possibly for the Later Meet. Caption for the Photos: To mark the 25th anniversary of the Squadron and the presentation of 439's Standard by his Royal Highness Prince Phillip, CF 104770 served as the Squadron's Tiger Bird in 1972 at the Tiger Meet hosted by France's EC 1/12 at Cambrai. This same aircraft also served as the Tiger Bird in 1973 and 1975, but with a different paint scheme.Dan | |||||||||||||

I don't know whether Canadian CF-104's ever carried Sidewinders, but I believe that the CF-104's sold to Norway and Denmark were modified to carry the missiles.
