| Icelandic based USAF F.15 Eagle (Pix plz) Guys - could do with some pictures, as I'm out of my depth with 'Witty-Wings' (as I've only got one Hawker Sea Fury). reading the threads on the IDF version, I know it's recommended....... BUT, I'm interested in the USAF version The 'Icelandic' based one (57th FIS). I've got real F.15's flying over my place during the week (making the house shake ! lol) & I've always wanted an (decent) F.15 model. Can anyone show pix of the 57th FIS 'bird', as a dealer is selling them & I'd like to see how good it looks, before buying. Here's hoping - thanx | |||||||||||||

| Re: Icelandic based USAF F.15 Eagle (Pix plz) IMHO the Witty F15 is one of if not the best 1/72 jet fighters made by any manufacturer! Even the turbine blades turn it is a heavy model with crisp details the only thing that spoils it for some is the fact it has a fixed undercarriage , After saying all that I am only speaking about the single seat model as Witty messed up the two seater with a completely wrong shaped canopy which spoils the look of this classic diecast I have yet to take a picture that does this model justice but if you look here you will some wonderful pics .Witty Eagles - The Diecast Aviation Web Site and Forum | |||||||||||||

| Check out the Flying Tigers Hornchurch. They had some Witty F15s on sale including the Iceland one. There was a Japanese one that looked quite good too. they were cheapest. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Icelandic based USAF F.15 Eagle (Pix plz)
Thanks a zillion for the help & esp' the advice & opinions (V.interesting reading) I WAS gonna order one (of the 'Icelandic' ones) on Monday, (tomorrow) afternoon - FROM "Flying Tigers" However, unexpected 'fate' intervened ! Astonishingly , about one-hour after my initial-post, I thought I'd just check out the 'Toy-fairs' which occur from time to time in the neighbouring county (Lincolnshire)...... (even though I'd never attended one in my entire life, there - AS they are mainly aimed at Cars & Trains !) I must have looked about four times in sheer disbelief as the (Toy-fair) website said "Sun 8th June" (exhibition-hall) So, Took about 35 - 40 mins to get there & managed not to get lost....... (should buy a 'Sat-Nav' instead of 'silly' planes, I know !) As expected, 80 % (+) was all cars & trains, but a (very) few traders were selling Die-cast a/c. Picked up numerous unexpected gems (whilst looking primarily for 'Century-Wings')....... One of which was THIS very same model - the 'Icelandic' F-15 Was a piffling £ 12 (so bought that plus an F.18 in VFA-154 'Black Knight' markings, same money). O.K. so 'Century-Wings' are better quality, but for 'peanuts' money, I've got an 1/2 sensible looking F.15. I can see zed & J.B.'s point about the canopy..... but until something better comes along (or C.W. branch out into 'non-Navy/Marine-mode'), I'll live with it (& enjoy the markings & stencilling stuff = neat!). Shame it wasn't an 'L.N.' 48th bird from Lakenheath (like the ones I regularly see for real !).... though the paint & markings DO look nice on this Keflavik/Rekjavik example. Also, poached a Hobbymaster Bf.110-G.2 (ZG.76) & an IXO Beaufighter amongst others, so all in all the trip was worthwhile. Thanks once again for the info'. Next time I'll be able to digest it, BEFORE buying (lol). | ||||||||||||||||
