Pictures Mig-29 Kubinka 1989

It is finally here, only have time to take a few shots, overall and close ups and let you judge. I like the model, only Witty again failed in the QC department, I am missing a piece on a missile. Construction is in my opinion much better than in the Corgi one, livery is much more subdued, looking exactly like the everyday workhorse I need in my collection. Panel lines are very subtle and I like that in a modern jet. My only complaint is again, the QC (I will need to get a replacement for that stupid missing piece) and the cockpit, the frames are still way too thick.

Thumbs up Re: Pictures Mig-29 Kubinka 1989

I'm feeling ya Gerry. This Fulcrum is going to go nicely with my other Soviet models. I can't wait to get it.

I checked on foxbat.ru and there are quite some pictures of MiG-29s but much more recent than what the box states (1989), some of the planes were wearing a similar livery to the model in 2005, including the Russian Air-Force insignia under the cockpit, albeit a bit bigger than in the model.

The modeled aircraft is to my knowledge a MiG-29A as referred to by NATO or in Russian designation a 9-12A, unlike the much more common 9-13 in the Russian lineup (and found on a.net or foxbat.ru).

The model does look a bit too clean really, but that happens with all Witty models. Another point, if we get picky, is the lack of "X" and warnings all over the plane, therefore making the model look even cleaner.

For those looking for heavy metal, this model is a no-good, it is even lighter than the Witty F-16! I am not the kind of person who jugdges a scale model by its heft, I appreciate the fine panel lines (and rivets) so I picked it against the more expensive Corgi option (which had a livery that looks far too crazy to me).

I solved the missile problem with a piece of plastic, some cutting and sandpaper since neither the retailer in Hong Kong (they never care once you walk out the door so better triple check anything you purchase with them!) nor Witty replied positively (the helpful guy Michael left Witty and nobody gives a flying cow about the collector anymore)...which makes Century Wings my preferred manufacturer for aftersales service, followed by Corgi.

Re: Pictures Mig-29 Kubinka 1989

This was what happened to me for my Gaincorp SU-33. Took me a year to realise one of the missile fins was missing. Luckily the missiles on Gaincorp's flankers are not refined enough to make my amateurish effort obvious.

Did I mention that the engine's first stage fans spin like in the Witty F-15?
Too bad the dorsal auxiliary air intakes are not really connected to the main intake.

Re: Pictures Mig-29 Kubinka 1989

Well, according to the fyingmule, the next Mig-29 will be a Indian cheerful livery, announced delivery is for summer, but at the speed this one was released (nearly half a year of delay) I would be holding my breath until christmas before I actually see it. One thing Witty does need to address (besides QC and the cockpit frame -that should be half as wide overall, and no need to outline the windshield with black paint at all), is the "crooked" antenna behind the cockpit. I thought about pulling it out and reinsert it back after some customization, but then I gave up since I already modified and improved the AOA sensor on the starboard side.
