Re: The F-15's fan blades spin!

Cuz most modern nozzles are ceramic white inside, most obvious when new:

Well then - this Witty "Gorillas" Eagle I just got is really nice then! I think it may be better than either one of my two Dragons.

Re: The F-15's fan blades spin!

The fact that so many collectors didn't even know about that feature (despite it being loudly advertised at initial release) is a sign that they did spend extra cost on a feature that's excellent to have but didn't make most of you buy the model.

The exhaust is actually the feature that I wish all models did have, because on most of my photographs, many real jet exhausts do look ceramic white, and that's got nothing to do with afterburners being engaged...

the spinning fan blades are very common on 1/200 airliner models, and that's probably why Witty thought that collectors would appreciate the feature in a 1/72 model, but after the F-15, they've stopped adding that feature and probably saved a lot on cost. Has anyone else noticed they've slowed down production of new models? Haven't seen a twin-seat F-15 in a while,I hope they're reshaping the canopy!

Re: The F-15's fan blades spin!

They painted the inside of the engine nozzles white! Why'd they do that?

The white color is only correct for F-100PW-229 engines, and therefore is incorrect for any A, B, C, or D model F-15. Only some E models have those engines (such as the ones at Lakenheath, 48FW).

But I've seen lots of pics of white(ish) nozzles on all models of the F100.

I've just got this mental image of you guys sitting around wide-eyed, blowing furiously into your intakes....just try not to hyperventilate, fellas - you could pass out and drop your jets on the floor...then you'd have all kinds of free-moving parts.

Look on the bright side Skunky - no one has 'fessed up to trying it with their dentures removed.... yet

Re: The F-15's fan blades spin!

Well, maybe that's something they do on the newer ones, but I must have done over 600 preflights of F-16s before flying them (with PW-200 and 220, and GE-110 engines), and never have seen white inside the nozzles.

Or perhaps it's something that dirties up/wears out very quick, and I must say I don't remember flying one with a brand-new engine on it, so that could be an explanation.

In any event, if you say you've seen pictures, I'll take your word for it. The picture you posted, though, is an E model, I suspect with -229 engines.
