| I gotta tell you, I am pretty pretty happy with my new Witty Wings. The Mig 29 is great, seems to be real accurate, the plane itself is much smaller than I expected, not being an expert I thought these would be the size of an F-15 or bigger when they are more the size of an F-16? I also picked up the Nellis Green Camo F-16 which has quite a weapons load and in the correct color. And to round things out I got another older F/A-18 Diamondbacks, lots of neat markings on this one, a good looking aircraft overall and really nice heft. I think its cool how Witty makes the stabalizers and rudders move. Granted the gear is fixed on these babies but it is also metal and strong as heck. I like it. Only paid $19.88 each for the F/A-18 and F-16, a great price as well I might add. One last thing my older recent purchase Wittys come with the best stand anyone has done period. Lets you put the plane in all kinds of positions and attachs to the rear and not the belly, looks great. I know with the newer ones you have to purchase it separate for a few bucks though? | Re: Got me the Mig 29 and New F-16 - F/A-18
Which seems like such a waste considering that all Wittys come with landing gear permanently fixed in the "down" position. Granted, I know some people still like to display them on a stand, but it always looks ridiculous to see an aircraft "in the air" with landing gear in their fully compressed state (especially USN birds). I would have figured the MiG 29 to be more on the F-14/15 scale as well....

I wouldn't. F-15's are pretty big, which is quite a big disadvantage. I heard that a singaorean pilot was able to fly real low, in canyons i think or something i think, and managed to surprise a flight of F-15's with his F-5 by indentifying their big size and come up from underneath. but i think Mig-29 would probably be more to the size of F/A-18's

| Re: Got me the Mig 29 and New F-16 - F/A-18 Not an expert on the modern Soviet/Russian aircraft, but MiG-29 in many ways is an antithesis of Su-27. Given the experiences of Vietnam War, the Soviets deducted properly that the US will design a small agile fighter, MiG-29 was supposed to counter that fighter, while Su-27 was designed to tackle F-14s and F-18s. MiG-29 should be about the size of F-16 given its design purpose. Regards, Sergey | |||||||||||||

| Re: Got me the Mig 29 and New F-16 - F/A-18 MiG-29 is just a bit smaller than an F-18 Hornet (not Super Hornet which is significantly larger). That makes it a bit bigger than the F-16, but really not by a whole lot. I've got that Witty two-seater coming this way. Looks pretty good to me, and I don't have a UB model yet. FVD | |||||||||||||

| Re: Got me the Mig 29 and New F-16 - F/A-18
Yup, according to the material I've collected, the MiG-29 was designed as a light fighter compared to the Su-27, just like the YF-16 and YF-17 were supposed to do to complement the F-15. Many specialized books compare the Mig-29 with the F-16, and it depends on who wrote the book, one outperforms the other... In any case, the UB version came out better than expected in terms of accuracy (I insist they should not paint the canopy frames SO damm thick!) and I now only expect the single seater to be just as accurate if not better, look out for those engine exhaust cones, I am not sure they're supposed to look like that on all models!!!!! Witty? are you listening? Now, the guys at the factory in China MUST pay attention to Quality Control: all parts need to be properlyl attached (read "glued") in their places, and no excessve use of adhesive or the paintjob will be screwed-up like in so many examples I saw. OH, and I almost forgot, the only moving control surface on the MiG are the rudders, no more stabilators. Wonder why their American airframes all have moveable stabilators AND rudders while so far ALL their Russian models don't!?!?!

Yep the Mig 29 is roughly between the F-16 and F-18 in size. Here is a photo taken in 1989 with a Canadian Air Force CF-18 when the Russian Air Force appeared at the Abbotsford Airshow in 1989. Dan

| Re: Got me the Mig 29 and New F-16 - F/A-18
The gear up is a bummer with the stands -- but I get around this by "parking" my Witty models and using the stands for the same models from other makers. I've got a CW Tomcat in my F-14 stand, for instance, and Dragon F-18 in the f-18 stands, etc. They work well --but the models are definitely not held as securely as a Witty ... If there is an earthquake in my area, and being North Bay Area that seems likely, I could be in some trouble...

That explains the $10 price difference between the MiG-29 and Su-27...
