| Witty Wings F-16 Israel Barak Hello to all , hopefully everyone is having a nice weekend Holiday. I just got this model Witty 72010011 Israeli Air Force F-16 My question is, is the weapons load on this correct and what are the green looking bombs/rockets as well as the under belly tank or ? Need to have a poster with these babies listed with pics for identifying them for novices like me :-) Flaps | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Witty Wings F-16 Israel Barak Flaps- Looks like a valid Viper weapons load to me - the green bombs are LGBs, most likely GBU-16s (1000 lb class). They could be GBU-10s (2000 lb class), but from the size they look more like the -16s. It's a little hard to tell from pics on the Witty site. -FN75 | ||||||||||||||

| I have this one too. Very nice. My only Witty jet, I liked the weapons load although the Scorpion on the tail of another is really cool. | ||||||||||||||

Here's some excellent reference links for the Israeli Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground missiles/weapons: Launched Systems Shafrir & Python Python 4 Python 5 The air-to-air weapons mounted for both the Witty Israeli airforce F-16s are, unfortunately, the standard American AIM-9 sidewinders. The Israeli equivalents are called "Shafrir". I could use some "Python" ATA missiles for the IAF F-16 to have an accurate weapons loadout.

| Re: Witty Wings F-16 Israel Barak Bombs are GBU-10 2000lbs laser-guided bombs (the F-16 has never been cleared for GBU-16s as far as I know, and in any case, the size is right for the 2000 pounders). Centerline is a 300 Gals standard F-16 belly fuel tank. Wing tanks are 370 Gals. The AIM-9s, well, the forward fins are inaccurate for any version of those that I know (a minor flaw in the model, which I have an really like). Israeli F-16s do carry AIM-9s very often, in addition to the Python series missiles. FVD | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Witty Wings F-16 Israel Barak Is the shape of the air intake correct? The dragon and Witty F-16s have the same shape for air intake but I read that there are two different shapes depending on the engine used. | ||||||||||||||

Seems correct to me for the "big mouth" intake, which appeared in the early part of the block-30/32 run. Not really engine dependent, but the larger intake was indeed designed for the GE engine which needed the extra air to reach full potential (compared to the earlier PW F-100), But even PW-powered C models in block 32 and later all had the big intake, as far as I know (though since I never flew one of those, I'm not 100% sure). In any event, all Block 40/42s and block 50/52s have the big intake. All "A" models (before block 25 which started the "C" and "D" designation) had the smaller intake. FVD

| Re: Witty Wings F-16 Israel Barak Big intake is *only* for GE-powered. Even the newest PW ones with the -229 still have the small intake. Nearly all GE's got the big intake, only Block 30A through 30D had the small one. F-16C quick list: Block 25: PW engine, small intake Block 30, early: GE engine, small intake Block 30, mid/late: GE engine, large intake. Block 40 and 50: GE engine, large intake Block 32, 42, 52: PW engine, small intake. Covering all the differences of the F-16C/D family would take a LONG post. But that'll suffice for external parts of the engines/intakes. (Unless we start talking about nozzle feather finish on PW's...) I don't have a Witty, but Dragon's have the large intake. (Which makes them wrong for Dragon's many PW-engined releases). Dragon's F-16C really is a mish-mash of parts. Not sure about Witty's, the only one I found good pics of was for the T-birds release, and it's painted strangely in parts and isn't a Block 32. Big intake is the MCID intake (Modular common intake duct), the small one is the NSI intake (forget what it stands for). Personally I'd call them wide and narrow, as that describes it better---the small one is actually deeper than the big one. Best way is to look at the upper corners---the small intake's corners are more circular and broad, the big one has more "rounded off triangles". You can also tell by the ECS intake ducts--the small ones are vertical, from both the front and sides. The big one has them slanted in (from the front) and slanted forward (from the side). From the side, ECS duct angle is the best way to tell IMHO. Big on the left, small on the right. ![]() | ||||||||||||||
