Question Witty Spitfire - What do you think?

Since I like Israeli aircraft, I was thinking about picking up the Witty Israeli 101 sq. Spitfire, issue WTW72002-02. Anybody have this specific release, or any of WItty's Spitfires? What are you thoughts, likes, and dislikes?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Witty Spitfire - What do you think?

Tundra,
I hope I can be of help. I have this particular Spitfire on my shelf along with my other airplanes and it is quite unique in that it stands out because of its silver paint and Star of David insignia. This is the only Witty Spitfire I own and compared to the Corgi and Dragon Spitfire's it really does not compare. The wing guns are just little stubs, which really do not even look like guns. They should have just left them off if they were not going to put any effort into making them look realistic. The panel lines on the top and bottom of the wings look good, but are not impressive at all on the fuselage. The engine exhaust pipes are very nice. The wheels roll and the propeller spins nicely. There is a pilot, but the cockpit is nothing but a green piece of plastic with what appears to be a gun sight attached to it.

In short, up close this particular plane is not real impressive. But again, I bought it because it was the only Israeli piston engine fighter I could find and I thought it was unique.

Re: Witty Spitfire - What do you think?

Tundra - Witty's Spitfire casting is quite good, and in my book is far better than Corgi's MkIX but not on a par with Gemini's. Where it falls short is the propeller (thin blades), slipper tank (they put them on all their Spitfires, though you can remove them), misaligned cockpit (see sideview pic on the Mule site - pilots head is behind the canopy! - this too can be fixed - I wrote the instructions!) and the fixed down landing gear. The guns I believe are accurate, Witty went through the trouble of modifying them for this model only. Finish and markings are well done.

Though that seems like a long list of negatives I still like the model and can recommend it, but at under $20. You'll occasionally see them fairly cheap on eBay.

Skydriver, No4mkit...thanks for the information!

Hmm...sounds like I'll be stripping a Gemini and making my own Israeli spitfire.

Thanks again guys.

Re: Witty Spitfire - What do you think?

Personally, I like the Witty Spits. I have the Israeli and Dutch birds, and I'm getting ready to order one of the "grey Nurse" models.
They may not be as detailed as the Gemini one, but it's a good airplane for under 20 bucks. And, I give Witty credit for putting out versions used by some of the smaller Spitfire operators. It gives me hope that they (or someone else) will put out a Spit in Egyptian, Turkish, Syrian, and/or Greek colors...

I have the "Grey Nurse" Spitfire and really like it too. I agree with Rush's comment about giving Witty credit for putting out versions used by some of the smaller Spitfire operators.

Re: Witty Spitfire - What do you think?

I would welcome adding any IAF aircraft to my collection but have held off on this Witty. I wouldn't pass it by if I could snag it at a sweet price though!

I'm not really thrilled by the silver scheme on this plane, but if it looked like the IAF Spit in this pic I would snap it up in a heartbeat, Witty or not (here I come!).

Yeah, Black6...I'm with you on the black painted Spit w/red lightning bolt scheme as well!

Now that is REALLY nice...Do you have any information about the plane and markings? This was probably some type of squadron anniversary scheme, since it's flying with what appears to be a "Knights of the Twin Tail Squadron" Baz.

That Spitfire was flown by Ezer Weizman. Some links here:
