Re: FW-190A-8's

The Aero Detail # 6 indicates FW190 A-8 filled several roles including night fighter, fighter bomber, assault fighter and long range night fighter bomber. So bomb rack variant could be correct. The publication also indicated quite a few subtypes (R1,R2,R3,R6,R8,R11 and R12) and after 1944 it was equipped with Galland haube (thought it was Erla-haube, but pub referenced Galland) canopy for better visibility. It seems the A-8 could be modelled with two different canopy variations and still be correct.

Yeah but I thought the A-8 only accomodated a single bomb under the centreline to fill its ground attack roles. I thought the wing bomb racks were introduced in the F-8

The long-range night fighter bomber variant had hard points on wings as well as center point. So could still be a possiblility.

The first version of Witty's 190 is finally available from the vendors...and its only 8 months behind the second version, which came out first!

Re: FW-190A-8's

I just received my Walter Nowotny FW-190A-5 and this just about closes the book for me where Witty is concerned. The first thing I noticed was that the model was displayed bottom up in its box---not a good sign. Then I saw that they had misspelled the famous ace's name on the box (Norwotony ). Next I saw all of those bombs the plane was lugging around---all painted light blue/gray to match the undersurface color. Then
I spotted the wing guns and pitot head---also in light blue/gray. This was followed by glue smudges on both wings where the Chinese laborers had attached the wing bombs. All of this was a prelude to my inspection of the topside of the model. The paint job was fine but this is an FW-190 A-8 not an A-5 as it is supposed to be. Also, it has a blown canopy---not correct for the A-5 marks and lastly, the pilot figure is so tiny that he can't possibly see anything but the lower part of the instrument panel when looking forward.

I had hoped that Witty's terrible P-38 was just a bump in the road, but this long delayed FW-190 is a new low. Could this be deliberate sabotage by the Chinese factories? In any event, I'm not sure I'll give Witty another chance, even though I liked its Sea Fury.

Re: FW-190A-8's

I'm proud of you for even giving it a chance. The photos alone gave me the shivers.

I would pick up a P-38 if I found a steal and just paint the superchargers but the only one I like much is Happy Jack's Go Buggy and that's mainly for the history. Thanks for warning us all off of it Ed and i'm sorry you had to shell out $ to do it.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

I just took a look at the pictures of it on the Flying Mule site and it matches up with everything you said. How much work are you going to put in on this one?

Gosh...I kind of like it...the colors are nice...

(I don't expect much of Witty, and at $19.99, don't look that close.)

It's even worse. The main landing gear, which is fixed in the "down" position, isn't even aligned properly. I'm considering shoving aside some of those IXOs cluttering my bin, to make room for this one.

Re: FW-190A-8's

Yikes! I have three Witty Bf-109s and, while not museum quality, I always felt I got value for the buck. I AIN"T gonna near that FW-190A-8 until I have one in my sweaty hands.
