Re: Witty's F-104: not so brilliant I am afraid

Had a look at Witty's Really George at Kemble on Sunday and regardless of the physical shape issues mentioned the finish didn't look as good as the HM version, also - twice the price without optional under carriage!

Unless the produce a 'must have' livery I will probably stick to HM.

As an aside - I picked up the Iraqi Sea Fury which looks fantastic!

Good idea but the Witty Wings F-104 has so many glaring errors that its a real shame (Just one obvious example front canopy section is just 1 panel, should be 3) got a Pic of the Sea Fury?

Hi here is a picture top-dow of the HM F-104 and the Corgi F-104, IMHO the Corgi is not finished as well as the HM lack of detail on the wingtip tanks and panel lines missing on one wing. etc

Paul,
Your picture illustrates a perfect example of why I prefer my panel lines "inked" as long as it is not too overdone. For me it's all about asthetics and all the HM a/c brings more of a dramatic look to it when panel details are highlighted, in my honest opinion. I guess it's the modeler-mindset in me that sets the tone of preference for how a scaled model or diecast should look like. To each his own....

I agree at 1/72 many details would be lost if panel line etc were not applied, it would be an amorphous blob, its almost OK in 1/48 (Armour F-104's arent too bad but the only model I have which can get away with it is the 1/18 Model/Toy :-) from 21st century.

Re: Witty's F-104: not so brilliant I am afraid

I saw one at Burbanks House of Hobby's today. I passed on it and bought a Corgi German F-104 and The HM Greek 104. I know I said I hate off the wall paint schemes but for 15 BUCKS how could I go wrong? Besides If I'm going to make my own German Luke 104 I 'll need the black fuel tanks. Think I'll try using the Corgi F-104 in USAF Colors..

I have it as part of a pre-order I set up quite a while ago which I am now regretting...Its just like the other F-104'S in terms of quality (Its atually an F-104S) so it has 2 strakes on the aft fuselage (Big gaps here!!) it still has the peculiar mould tags attached to top and bottom of the fuselage.Marginal improvement with the canopy being slightly better (Two extra silver lines painted on...) the ejector seat and pilot is appalling the pilot is a sort of grey blob who is obviously 4 feet tall!! and can just see out of the cockpit....I wont go through every detail eror as there are plenty of Photos of this paricular plane on the internet, WW have however appear to have added extra instructional/warning notices ......it is however very heavy with rotating wheels so you can happily taxi it up and down your kitchen table...

Re: Witty's F-104: not so brilliant I am afraid

I just received my Pakistani Starfighter made by Witty and I don't think that it's a bad model. Sure it's no Hobby Master, but have the two ever been confused for being at the same level?
I mention this because I think that there's a tendency to view the best as the only thing that's acceptable and anything less as garbage.

Considering the prices of them both, its viewed that you can get the best for just a few extra dollars. As opposed to dragon/witty/FOV Tomcats compared to CW where there is a steep difference for the best

Hi I guess part of the problem I have is the cost in the UK which is twice as much as HobbyMaster and for this price I expect at least a stand :-). Also again because of the price I do not expect to have a casting which has not been finished hence the "flashing" on the forward section of the fuselage top and bottom finally the cockpit and pilot is pretty awful. But as with everything its only someones opinion :-)
