| Romanian Bf 109G I just picked up WTW-72-003-002 pretty cheap, it's the Bf 109G-6 in Romanian markings. Instead of the wartime crosses, it has roundels in Romanian colors. Does anyone have any more information about this particular model? Is it a late-war plane from when Romania changed sides, or a postwar example? Thanks! | |||||||||||||

| Re: Romanian Bf 109G
Tough to tell since Romanian started to replace their BF-109Gs with La-9s only in 1947. At the same time, roundels instead of Michael's crosses (i.e. modified Maltese cross) indicate the time between when Romania changed the war and the end of hositilities. My somewhat educated, but still a guess is that this particular plane is one of the IAR-Brasov-built Bf-109G-6 that reached Romanian units in Slovakia in late-March of 1945. The camo scheme seems to indicate this to me, but I could be wrong. Regards, Sergey

| Re: Romanian Bf 109G Sounds plausible to me, Sergey, thanks! I wonder if any 109 vs. 109 combat occurred. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Romanian Bf 109G
Plenty of such dog fights occured between Romanian squadrons and Luftwaffe and Hungarian Airforce units between August of 1944 and March of 1945. As early as August 25th, Romanian Grupul 9 109Gs downed two Bf-190Gs and six other Luftwaffe planes over Bucharest. Regards, Sergey

| Re: Romanian Bf 109G
Pick up Osprey Aircraft of the Aces 54: Romanian Aces of WWII. All the info is there, but not so much in the way of color illustrations as other Osprey books in the Aircraft of the Aces series. Regards, Sergey P.S. It's still beyond me why Witty chose to produce this version of Romanian Bf-109G instead of the one with Michael's Cross, which is more unique looking.

| Re: Romanian Bf 109G Ted, I also have this model. I have it in the MTO because of the white fuse band. I could be wrong about that. Will continue to search for conformation. ![]() | |||||||||||||
