Re: exclusive to the Old FLying Machine Company

Well my Frankie arrived today. Thanks OFMC and Charley! My pilot seems to be taking a nap though. A bit too much in the prone position. Can the canopy be easily removed? Anybody ever done this?

Re: exclusive to the Old FLying Machine Company

Well, that was a fun model to own for 3 hours. In an effort to get the canopy off and fix the pilot I snapped it in half. Got the pilot out though.

Looks like time for bed............

Re: exclusive to the Old FLying Machine Company

WHAT? the canopy or the plane! If its the canopy then take the following steps, Make an internal mould of the canopy ,then cut out a piece of plastic from a soft drink bottle ,place it on top and put under grill for a few seconds. The plastic should melt over the mould and form shape of the cockpit canopy. Then with a fine tipped tube of glue trace out the cockpit frame onto the plastic, paint and there you go!!! It may take several attempts to master this but it worked for me.

I have heard people doing that but never really told how it was done.
Be cool if you had pictures showing us how to do that.
That may be the new Tip of the Week.

My "Frankie" arrived yesterday as well. Thanks for the prompt service and great model. This was my first attempt at purchasing from the "other shore."

Re: exclusive to the Old FLying Machine Company

I got my Frankie and Spit this morning. I think that they are great.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: exclusive to the Old FLying Machine Company

With my OFMC addition today, I am up to 15 Mustangs in the stable:

Witty - 3
Gemini -- 1
OFMC -- 1
Armour 1:100 -- 5
Armour 1:48 -- 1
GMP -- 1
Corgi 1:32 -- 1

Somehow I have resisted the Corgi 1:72 --

Re: exclusive to the Old FLying Machine Company

It does work but its easier if you scout around and find a bottle that has a small curved neck. It gives it a start. The difficult bit I found was cutting away the waste edges. Its worth a try just stick it under the grill but watch out it melts all of a sudden and you have to be quick. I once made the canopy of a homebuild Wyvern about 1/48 scale with this method and it was perfect. I have also made a P51 1/72 canopy again with the same method. The cheaper the soft drink the better the bottle. Those really disgusting cheap soft drinks come in equally cheap "thin" bottles so have a look around for those. Sorry I have no photos but I think with a little trial and error you can get the hang of it. After some of the work I have seen on this sight it will be easy for you chaps. Forgot to mention, it helps if you put the mould on a spike so it sits up clear of anything.
I have heard people doing that but never really told how it was done.

Re: exclusive to the Old FLying Machine Company

I'm leaning toward picking these up -- I love the cause (same reason why I picked up the Malta CE last year..)

Question: Does the Spit have the slipper tank and cockpit issues of Witty's early Spits?
