Witty Mustang assembly on Jumpin'...

Just got Jacques and thought I'd make a few comments.

1. The paint color and finish is outstanding as is the attention to detail
2. I esp. like the metallic silver which almost looks like it came off a Mercedes but is still very nice and seems high quality.

3. Panel lines are subtle and seem very good. No dark IXO or HM issue here.

4. Great prop and spins freely yet fits tightly.

5. Detailed drop tanks reminiscent of the Gemini ones but not quite.

6. 1 issue- odd design of wing assembly creates a weird, I don't want to call it a gap,...uh...just an odd seem I guess that detracts from the model. It is a jagged, hard to imagine sort of a seem right in the middle of the fuselage
just aft of the wing root and though it is painted well and fits tightly, it just takes away some and makes it not up to Dragon standards.

Dragon is still #1 but this Witty is a nice bird.

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

Thumbs up Re: Witty Mustang assembly on Jumpin'...

I love my Witty P-51's, best thing about witty is the low price and large selection. Dragon has not released a P-51 in a few years, basically out of the market the way I see it.

I also just got a few Witty Jets F-16 F-14 and man talk about nice detail and many moving parts that do not fall off, like some Dragon Jets.

I think witty will be the one too watch in 07.

Whew, just in time. I mean talk abut getting lucky or what. I don't have a Witty Wings in my hanger and just got through browsing a couple of dealers for prices and shipping. I like the looks of a couple of the 109s, and one of the 51s looks good. So, how does WW stand against Corgi, Dragon, and Gemini in terms of color, fit, accuracy and price? Buy or stand pat?

Well, if you haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet, you surely won't be disappointed when you do. I collect(ed) Corgi 109s exclusively, but have since become hooked on Witty not only because of the quality of their planes, but because IMHO, its 109s have some of the most beautiful and interesting schemes I have seen in a long while. (In fact, the Carganico, Langer and the upcoming Lemke are must haves). To me, Witty represents the best value in 109s. Some might bemoan minor faults in the details of the casting and the fact that the landing gear is permanently in the down position, but if you can live with this, I would highly recommend them. I'm actually surprised that they're as inexpensive as they are compared to the rest of the market. Besides, where else will you find a 1/72 scale Barkhorn? I'm really crossing my fingers and hoping that they beat Corgi to the punch by releasing Graf's "Red Tulip" and Marseille's Yellow 14".

Skyblue, thanks for your input. I appreciate it. However, you've raised my curiousity abut some of the names you mentioned. Who are Carganico and Langer and for whom did they fly? Are the models of the planes they flew available through Witty Wings? I assume they are. I'm interesed in the different liveries available on 109s, and the three you mentioned sound interesting.

Re: Witty Mustang assembly on Jumpin'...

Glad you asked, stalag. Although I'm far from being an expert in the field of 109s, my interest in learning everything I can about German ordnance as well as the Luftwaffe's contributions in the the European Theater of Operation has exposed me to some very interesting markings used by the experten during the war. The 109s and 190s displayed some of the most striking, innovative and sometimes colorful paint schemes seen in combat, undoubtedly following in the tradition of Baron von Richtofen's Flying Circus.

Attached are links to shed some light on the career Horst Carganico:

and pics of the most famous 109 that he flew:

This link will shed some info on Karl-Heinz Langer and his aircraft:

The planes, thankfully, are available through Witty.

Skyblue, auf Deutsch, viel und danke. Gosh, I've really been been bitten by the 109 bug; so much, in fact, that I just ordered three issues by Witty Wings: Carganico, Langer, and Lemke.
Stay hidden for awhile-my bride's on the war path.

Gern geschehen, Stalag. It's always a pleasure to help a forum brother. But where did you find the Lemke??!! I thought it wasn't on the market yet? Shows you just how much I know.

LOL, I guess we've both been bitten by the bug. I wonder if the fact that we joined this forum on the same day had anything to do with that. Anyway, I actually collected BOTH the Bf and the FW when I entered the hobby this year, but eventually settled on the 109; not just to keep the costs down, but because it had this "bad boy" look that gave credence to the sheer number of enemy aircraft downed during its reign - over 300 kills by EACH of the Luftwaffe's top experten. It's just mind-blowing when you consider that that number represents almost 5 times as many kills as the Allies' top aces. But I digress...

Enjoy your new birds, I'm sure you'll be quite happy with them. You might also want to consider the Witty Grislawski for your collection. This forum is a wonderful resource and hangout for people like us.

Oh, and since we're both 109 nuts and Witty is also coming out with a captured RAF 109, wouldn't it be cool if they also released this bird together with that one (link stolen from the UK site):

Oh, you mean THIS RAF 109 that Planebeach informed us about?

Raf 109 :)

Well, it certainly looks like the Japanese liked the 109s' performance well enough to improve on its design with the Kawasaki Ki-61 Hein 'Tony' (as it probably did the Italian Macchi Foglore):

http://www.hsgalleries.com/gallery04/ki61sg_1.htm

http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/view...357-45cee&sp=1

Unfortunateley, the 'Tony' came out too late in the war to be of any significance. They were, however, reported to escort Kamikaze squadrons to their targets, as they were very lethal and effective fighters.

Now THIS is another aircraft Witty should consider casting and releasing in all its various markings.
