Any good DVDs with excellent aerial footage?

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a 40-inch HDTV. Any recommendations of DVDs that have excellent aerial footage (with real airplanes not CG stuff)? I already have most of the Hollywood movies like Top Gun, Final Countdown, Battle of Britain, and the sort.

I'm looking for lesser known stuff like documentaries, airshow stuff, or foreign movies. Big plus if its widescreen and features loud sounds of actual jet engines roaring or piston-engine props turning over.

Not too sure of Documentary's and stuff, but you definatly need to have the following in your library

The Blue Max- Most incredible air to air footage of WW1 Biplanes. Trust me, you will want this one

Strategic Air Command- Incredible aerial footage of B-36 and B-47 Bombers

I highly recommend The Hunters and The Bridges at Toko-Ri both are excellent Korean era aerial flicks. On the military aviation documentaries side, there are plenty DVD titles to satisfy all tastes. Just make sure those are viewable (Region specific) with the type of DVD player you own in your neck of the woods. You can do google search for online vendors ( there are plenty out there ) that specializes on military aviation documentaries easily. I've been fortunate enough to be able to shop around for aviation related DVD titles in my local brick-and-mortar shops
and I've seen some really good ones out there. Good luck!

If you're looking for some cool documentary stuff, try these guys-
GRS Video Productions
The gentleman who runs this site has dedicated himself to preserving old footage of carrier flight ops. I highly recommend this site; I have about a dozen of the titles with more on the way.

Aviation and Space History DVDs from rocket.aero
Cool DVDs covering some lesser known aviation subjects. Excellent in terms of content and production.

Re: Any good DVDs with excellent aerial footage?

Two other good sources for documentary type DVDs-
AviationMegastore.com

q‹óÕƒrƒfƒI‚Ì‚`‚h‚q‚a‚n‚w
This is the site for a company called air-box.com. It's the site of a Japanese enthusiast who makes his own aviation DVDs. Naturally, the focus is on the JASDF.

I don't know what kind of DVD player you have; but you may want to pick one up that's been modified to be region-free in order to take full advantage of all the aviation related DVDs out there. These modified players can easily be obtained on-line.

You are welcome, Vifam7! Another good source for these types of DVDs is aviation museums; many of which sell their products on-ine. One such place is the Delaware Valley Historical Aircraft Association Museum outside NAS Willow Grove, PA. They make some of their own DVDs; including a couple dealing with the Convair F2Y Sea Dart and the Me 262 (both aircraft types are on display there). Here's their link-

Enjoy!
