Re: C130 Landing on a carrier

While I'm not familiar with the dynamics of carrier landings that had to be difficult to land something that large on a carrier.

I wonder if they can launch one too.

Yes, the C-130 took off from the same carrier after landing. I believe I've seen video of that as well in the past. I don't think it was heavily loaded, though.

The U-2 has also landed and taken off from a carrier, in the 60s.

Re: C130 Landing on a carrier

In the video, it said that Lt James Flately was one of the pilots...I wonder if he's any relation to James Flately of early WWII Naval Aviation fame? Obviously not the same guy, but maybe a son?

Indecision is the key to flexibilty.
Flexibility is the key to airpower.
Indecision is therefore the key to Airpower.

Re: C130 Landing on a carrier

The aircraft carrier was USS Forrestal and the trials took place in OCT 1963. They made 29 touch and go's 21 unarrested full stop landings and 21 unassisted takeoffs, quite a remarkable piece of flying.

The pilot. Lt James Flatley received the DFC and later made Admiral.

And yes, it is the son of the famous Vice Admiral James H. Flatley Jr.
