At the beginning of the Second World War, British invented the bouncing bomb to destroy enemy dams and battleships.
To drop such bombs, the bomber had to fly exactly 20 meters above water at 400 km/h.
This video shows a bouncing bomb test that ended badly.
The bomb bounced a bit too high on the water, and hit the tail of the plane.
It resulted in a dramatic crash.



Even this one hit the water so hard that the splash was big enough to damage the airplane that dropped it.

It looks like they use a A-26 for their first drop that went bad.

The first film is of the US airforce testing testing a bouncing bomb using A26 Invader & after this crash stop the program
The British used the mosquito to test the bouncing bomb first & then the lancaster & used the bombs on the dams in 1943
The United Air Force test were late in the war & the idea was to us the bomb to sink ships
The RAF had a sq of mosquito doing the same but were never used using a small bomb called highball
the Germans discovered an Upkeep bomb that had failed to explode lying in some woods and subsequently a 385 kg (850 pound) version of the bouncing bomb was also attempted by the Luftwaffe. Designed for use against British shipping, it was given the codename Kurt, and was built at the Luftwaffe Experimental Centre in Travemünde. In trials, dropped by an Fw 190 it proved to be dangerous to the delivering planes as the bomb matched the speed at which it was dropped. Attempts to rectify this with booster rockets were ultimately a failure, and the project was discontinued in 1944.
