Agreed, especially painful was the loss of the late model Spitfire and Corsair, but aircraft crashes are always hard to watch and mostly result in loss of life..

Re: Some Scary Crashes On Here.

It ticks me off everytime I see the video of the Fairchild incident...A B-52 will never be an F-16, as Lt.Col. Holland so brilliantly demonstrated that day...Unfortunately he took three innocent lives along with him...Thankfully, it wasn't more...

Re: Some Scary Crashes On Here.

I agree he flew that B-52 like it was a F-16 ...I'm really surprised that they didn't ground him the first few times he did them stunts with a B-52.
If anything thing it would of been better for him to fly by himself with that big heavy B-52 if he was going to show off like that.
By watching the other clip he has done that same move before .....Some people need to know when to ground a pilot when they get too carried away with stuff.
After all some pilots are HotShots and some use better judgement then others. That indeed was a sad day.

That guy in the B-52 was nuts and a dare devil. I thought that I read somewhere that one guy punched out. I could be wrong.

The story I recall said all of them perished including one who was on his last flight prior to retiring. God bless them all - even the reckless fool.

Re: Some Scary Crashes On Here. **UPDATED** new footage

I pulled the 3rd video in favor of this updated one...This is a first time that i have seen this full video shot.
It shows why the B-52 aborted the landing as well.

The guy punched out about a millisecond before impact. That didn't cut it (not surprisingly).

Well, that's the thing: these guys weren't quite so "innocent." They were part of the Wing leadership who knew of Holland's blatant violations of rules, yet let him keep on flying instead of grounding him. Some of the smarter guys in the Wing refused to fly with Holland. EVERYONE knew it was only a matter of time before this happened. That's why the Air Force fired the remaining Wing leadership following the accident investigation.

Trust me, all of us flying in the Air Force at the time got briefed on this one. All we could do was shake our heads.

Still sad for these guys, but man, if you don't mind taking chances like that, don't be surprised when it comes back to bite you in the a... And I'm sure glad no one on the ground paid a price as a result of this idiocy.
