The F1 speed record is 397.481kph / 246.983mph set by a Honda F1 car on a salt flat in Utah in 2006. This was a race legal car meaning it has the limiting bits required by the FIA to slow the cars down. Something the Bugatti doesn't have to deal with.

To me the most impressive things about F1 cars are their braking and cornering ability. I'm pretty sure the Bugatti can't take Eau Rouge flat nor brake down as quickly for one of the turns at the end of long F1 straight aways.

I wasn't responding so much to the forum we but to the video which constantly compared the Bugatti to F1 cars. It was like someone hooking a rocket to a baseball and using it to throw a 150mph fastball while remarking that they were better than Randy Johnson.

One thing the Bugatti probably has going for it. It should last more than one race distance without needing to be totally rebuilt.

All in all if I was buying a car like that (not bloodly likely!) I'd prefer a Ferrari. Matter of taste.

Well, I really don't think that they were trying to make claims as much as provide a little perspective.
It's hard for average Joe to grasp what 253mph really is.
