| Re: Drinking and Flying Giving the crew, the benefit of the doubt, it looks like a confined area takeoff gone wrong. Unlike landplanes, seaplanes have the option of making curving takeoff runs, if they don't have a straight run of water long enough. With the Grumman there, it looks as if when he tried to roll it straight from the curved run to lift off the step, he over compensated and then got into an oscillation. Where he really c*cked it up was in not chopping the power immediately when it started going wrong rather than trying to recover the takeoff. Having a seaplane ticket myself, I sympathize with the pilot on this one. | |||||||||||||
