I came across this interesting program on the web. As many of us know, Hitler was a fanatic for home movies. The film of him at Berchtesgaden is well-known but lacks audio. A professor who is deaf and mute since birth has developed a lip reading program to help read lips at angles never before possible. Using this, they are beginning to discover what was being spoken about in the films. What is most interesting - and chilling - to me is how normal it all seems in these films. No ranting as the propoganda films show. Hitler did not discuss "business" at the retreat but Himmler and the others seem to do so to a degree. In many cases, it comes across as your every day person on vacation. A strange context to see Hitler in but important as it highlights that not everything is as it seems.

I would be interested in seeing more of these films but the little bit in this program certainly peaks the interest.

I watched it all the way through this time. I believe that the guy who is reading the lips got it wrong!

My reading was of the part when Hitler and his chums are on the terrace at Berchesgaden.

Hitler ( eyes glazed with a green tinge ) I don't care. All the British soldiers
are singing a song which tells the world that he has one ball more
than I have.

Himmler Right, but how did they find out that mine were so small?

Goebells And that mine were gone!

Eva I only make it one between four.

Speer Anyone for tea? I'll be mother and pour.

Hitler Ok, Ok. We'll have tea in ten minutes. Just don't make it Russian
tea. Ten minutes!

Speer ( to minion ) You heard the order. Tea for thirty-four!

Underling ( irritably ) Ya, Herr Reichsminister Speer. In ten minutes, a T 34!
( clicks heels and storms off snapping fingers )

Speer Tanks!

Underling ( looking back ) No trouble at all!

Also, you're quite right, Mustangdriver, who gives a stuff what the mad Austrian pr-ck has to say? I suppose that people will be shocked at how banal he is! He and Eva were well matched : no-brains meets no-balls!

I would like to also see the special about the missing allied pilots of the Korean war that was advertised at the end.

I can't help but notice that when ever I see something from UK History channel it looks better than what we get here. Is it just me?
