Re: Interesting video

Ouch. No ejection. Too close to the crowd. Looks like the pilot had to ride it all the way in. Very sad.

Re: Interesting video

Wow
I remember this, but I'd never seen that footage. It seems surreal from that angle.

He got out, before the video ends you can see a deployed canopy on the right side of the screen. It goes by very quick.

Re: Interesting video

When did this happen?...It looks almost identical to a horribly graphic video I saw of a SU-27 crash at an airshow in the Ukraine a few years back..If it's the same one, the pilot did not do a hell of a job missing the crowd. In fact many were killed and horribly injured, and as I understand it the pilot (and I believe even the backseater) received prison terms.

Re: Interesting video

I've seen this particular video awhile back from another forum. It never seizes to amaze me how Soviet pilots have a knack for doing dangerous stunts and saving their own skins when things like this happens. There are so many footages of Russian air disasters I've seen but this particular one is the most amazing and the worst, imho.

Re: Interesting video

This is the one you remember Skunky, here's a brief article on it.

Final figures released indicate that 83 people died and 199 were injured as a result of a disaster at the Sknilov aerodrome near Lvov, in which an Ukrainian Air Force Su-27 taking part in an air show crashed into the crowd. The tragedy occurred on Saturday at 12:45 local time, when the plane, which was performing an advanced manoeuvre, suddenly began to lose height and plunged into spectators. Both pilots managed to eject.

The catastrophe in Sknilov is the worst in post-Soviet Ukraine's short history. The press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that 18 bodies remain unidentified due the seriousness of the injuries they received. Criminal proceedings have been launched against the pilots of the Su-27. Ukrainian Defence Minister Vladimir Shkidchenko immediately tendered his resignation to President Leonid Kuchma after the disaster. A day of mourning has been declared in Ukraine today. The presidents of Russia, France, Georgia and Moldavia, as well as the German Chancellor and the Council of Europe have offered their condolences.
