Re: Interesting video

That's the one, Bns.....I saw an amateur video on it that ran about 10 minutes or so long......and I wished I hadn't watched it.......This crash looks so similar to that one it's not even funny..I'm glad the aftermath of this one was apparently much happier.....I don't think I want to attend any Russian airshows.

Re: Interesting video

This video is of the crash that killed all those people. It's just a different angle, and thankfully doesn't show any of the horrific aftermath. As SKUNKy said, it's better left unseen.

Re: Interesting video

I'm not going to post it....But yes there is a worst one of this crash that made me think twice before i bring my kid to a airshow again.
But you know our FAA rules are alot different then they are over there too.
Over there they fly way to close to the crowds and the crowds should only be at one location not on both sides of the runway like at that airshow.
God bless their souls that was so horrible to see happend.
I hope they have changed there rules about the airshows over there too.

Re: Interesting video

It causes one to have a little more respect for the strict flight restriction that have been implemented at US air shows.

Re: Interesting video

How many of you remember or know about the tragedy at the Ramstein AB, Germany back in 1986 when 2 jets of the Italian Frecci Tricolori demonstration team collided right above the crowds, resulting in the worst disaster in the air show history! The year before (when they performed at the Moffet Field Airshow in Mountain View, California) the FAA restricted that particular maneouver because of it's inherent danger (boy, they sure were soooo right on about it too) being flown by the Italian team near the crowds. Well, you know the rest of the history....

Yes i remember that one well too.
I have that one i a old VHS tape. That team has done that stunt many times without any problems but on that day all it took was one mistake and then a chain reaction from the other jets and the rest is history. They seem to like to push it to the limit and paid dearly for it too .

In this case I think the deaths had more to do with the pilots actions rather than the placement of the crowd. If pilot loses control with a plane the size and power of a Su-30 being on one side of the runway or the other wont help much.

One of the reasons why I prefer air shows in Europe or on US military bases is you get a much better feel for the power that these plane posses. In fact many times I along with fellow photographers will hike out into the weeds just to be able to get better shots at civilian shows.
