Re: WW2 movies that still need to be made

How about a movie dealing with the Battle of Coral Sea? I could also go for something taking place in the Mediterranean like the defense of Malta or one about Tobruk.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: WW2 movies that still need to be made

How about the heroic saga of the US Marines on Wake Island in December 1941? Of course, you'd have to find a role for Kate Bekinsale as a plucky nurse and love interest. But seriously, the WWII movie starring Robert Preston and William Bendix---while an obvious propaganda piece--- wasn't half bad. The same can be said of a recent cable documentary which featured low budget, but interesting "recreations"of some of the action.

The wartime Wake movie tells the story pretty well. I can't image a modern movie doing a better job of telling the story given all the changes they would make (like adding a love interest....) Other wartime movies that don't need to be re-made- 30 Seconds Over Toyko, Bataan, They Were Expendable, Sahara, Casablanca.

How about Operation Pedestal? That is a dramatic story. Not a lot of Americans involved though.

Or Black Thursday (Schweinfurt/Regensburg raid)?

Battle of Buna-Gona. The only major battle of World War II where an American division had to fight without heavy artillery support. Two Medal of Honor winners.

Re: WW2 movies that still need to be made

I would like to see the movie based on uncensored version of Pokryshkin's Book "Battle for the Sky". Due to Pokryshkin's uneasy relationship with Stalin and later on Brezhnev as well as his truthful interpretation of events, his book never became a movie script.

Regards,

Sergey

Now the Buna campaign was really a drawn out, gritty, slimy, slogging match. How's Hollywood going to sell tickets to such a movie---let alone sales to cable channels and home video---without a Kate Beckinsale type to spice things up?

I'd throw Midway into this category, too!

How about 30 seconds over Tokyo?

To be honest, I'd have to see the movie again, it's been so long since I've seen it. I don't remember too much about it. Midway has some obvious mistakes that a new version could avoid.

True enough but lose the Chuck Heston, his son and the Japanese lover shit. Lets have the straight goods, maybe a little more on George Gay.

I agree. Scrap the love interest/family conflict crap and provide more action. And do a better job on the cockpit closeups, so those don't look so obviously fake.
