If anyone up in the DC area wants to see one of these birds, the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum has one on display. It was designed to carry thermonuclear bombs. The Air Force said that was their mission, so the Navy made it a reconnaissance platform. I'm kinda fond of the Vigilante because very early in my career I worked in a photo reconnaissance equipment group that designed and qualified camera systems mounted in the belly "canoe."
