Books with great illustrations (WWII warbirds)

Hey, guys! Like the subject title says, can you recommend some books with great illustrations and facts of WWII aircraft. Axis and Allies fighters. 190's, 109's, Spitfire, Corsiar, Hellcat, Mustang, Warhawk, P-38's... yada, yada...

Also any Ace specific books worth getting?

Amazon is also a good place to look.

I recommend the "Aircraft of the Aces" and "Elite Units" series by Osprey Publishing. Some are better than others, but you get pictures of aircraft as well as ace histories. Amazon usually has them cheaper, but more are available at ospreypublishing.com, and they offer a "buy 3 get one free" deal.

Re: Books with great illustrations (WWII warbirds)

I think the Osprey "Aircraft of the Aces" are some of the best - but here are a couple "comprehensive" recommendations:

If I had to get one reference book on WWII aircraft, this would be it. Lots of info, photos, and illustrations – text and pics. I picked it up a couple months ago in the “Bargain Books” section of a Borders store - $9.99. (The link below is to a hardback version on Amazon.)

These are well worth looking at. I’ve also seen them in the Bargain Books sections of Barnes and Noble stores - $5-6??? Several illustrated paint schemes on the more popular WWII aircraft. I have these 2, but not the one on British aircraft of WWII.

American aircraft -

$2.00 and shipping.

Axis Aircraft -
$1.86 and shipping!

I like this one. Brief easy-to-read 2 pages per aircraft. Comparisons of similar aircraft. Not the deepest on info, but decent all-round reference.

Here, here...that book is 'TOPS' in my collection! Rikyu Watanabe is a superb illustrator second to none, in my book.

Exclamation Lend-Lease Soviet Aces

Just delivered to my little airfield today from Amazon. Look to Amazon for great prices, but look to Osprey for the releases. You can get a newsletter and updates. I started with them with the Del Prado Men-at-War booklets. Superb!
