Re: 1/1250 scale ship models

The big boys seem to discover ship models every couple of years. They produce 3-5 models then realize the market is too small and then drop their lines. You have to understand that most of the 1/1250 models produced are done in runs of 100-200 pieces total. A model like the Bismarck pictured above has used the basic Bismarck mould to produce 4 variations and over the 10 or 12 years that model has been available a total of about 4,000 have been made.

I don't think FOV or Easy Model are interested in selling only 4,000 copies over 10 years!

Dragon found this out with thier cruise ship models. Out for years and still available from the manufacturer.

1250ships, could you please advise as to where I might be able to find a 1/1250 model of the Bismarck (as depicted) . (Please PM me if necessary.)

The Italians did some interesting paint schemes on their ships.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

1250Ships,

I am brand new to this site. I just received one of these MRC Sea Power models of the USS Vincennes (the ship of which I am a plankowner). It far exceeded my expectations.

Are you stocking these? I can't seem to locate them on your web site.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard, 67Rally! Believe it or not, 1250ships is a COLLECTOR, not a dealer! He just has so many, he LOOKS like a dealer. I imagine he'll be able to help direct you to a dealer, however.

Re: 1/1250 scale ship models

Actually I am a dealer for 1/1250 and 1/1200 models. My site is at the bottom of my posts.

I will stock the MRC models but so far the distributor I deal with doesn't have them in stock. I think they are working their way through the food chain.

If you are impressed as a plankowner the model must be fairly accurate. I once showed a model of USS Mississippi, the nuclear powered cruiser not the battleship, to someone who had served on her close to 20 years before. He proceeded to explain in detail what was right and wrong with the model- things like hatches and gear being out of position by a few feet.

Re: 1/1250 scale ship models

The original thought was that this would be 1/700. If it is 1/1000 that is too bad- it is more of a fit the box scale. There are three standard ship model scales, 1/350, 1/700, and 1/1200 or 1/1250. 1/1000 put them in 1/35 GMP territory.

Beyond that I know nothing. Price is pretty cheap so my guess is that there will be a bunch of plastic on it. Hopefully it will look better than the Gearbox models. If so perhaps some folks around here will pick one up to go with their Swordfish. If they paint the Baltic camo scheme on it it won't be entirely correct though because that scheme was painted over before she went into the Atlantic. Also there should be prominent swasis on the bow and stern like this:

I am amazed that the Germans (and Italians) would identify their ships so readily considering they were used in range of so many Allied aircraft. I guess they were more concerned with their own
aircraft recognition mistakes.

Re: 1/1250 scale ship models

1250,

Thanks for the reply. I can sure spot the errors with this model. I chalk up the detail to degradation due to the tiny scale. I built a 1:750 model (of CG-49) several years ago and took the time to add as much definition and exactness. To compare the 1250 scale to the 750 is not fare to the 1250, but they still did a tremendous job with the attention to detail. Besides, molding plastic to that sort of detail is very tough...whether it is injection or roto.

Kudus to the Sea Power/MRC folks!

No problem- just wanted to correct the record. People should know I sell them so they can judge my posts about them accordingly.
