Question Shipping from Model Zone ??

Hello All;

As I am thinking about purchacing the BBMF Lancastrer Phantom Of The Ruhr from a U.K. dealer ( Model Zone ) has any body had any
good or bad shipping experiences with them. I would hate to spend all that money than have a model come to me in pieces. Any input to this question would be appreciated.

Or my second option would be to buy the RCAF Lancaster from Perry's at about the same total cost .

Hmmn; I think we've now got about four threads running, regarding "Phantom of the Ruhr" & purchasing it

I have seen a nasty incident (photo') on the UK forum, where one of the Lads bought a 1/32 PRU Mosquito, from Modelzone, via THE Royal-Mail, to his house & the picture would make you cringe (it was BATTERED !!!!!!!)

Others have commented about damaged models, via the Postal system (UK 'Post' only, so far)

Back in November ('07), I had 1 x Catalina ("Black-Cat") sent from the Manchester Modelzone branch = it arrived ok

Same happened later, another 2 ("Sullom-Voe") were sent from Modelzone Croydon = they arrived ok, (but boxes weren't mint)

I was willing to take a risk, as they were (approx) 1/2 price.

I'm NOT willing to pay £90 for POTR, & find it arrived damaged, or I will batter someone in temper !!!!!!!!!!!
So, I've decided I'll probably go pick one up, in person, instead (when the clocks go back/fwd whatever, allowing more Daylight during travel-time !!!!!!)

HOWEVER some of the lads well & truly outside the UK have recieved POTR (in the U.S. & Australia) as they've posted pix, so ya (probably) have to take each individual case on it's merits......... (hope they give us some experience/feedback on THEIR individual POTR's travel ?)

If I were you; I'd be inclined to actually phone the Croydon branch & ask for Sarah (the Ass't-Manager) & express your concern.

I found her EXTREMELY helpful, & I expressed a similar-view/concern about potential 'Postal' damage - to which she made a special-note to HER staff to get my (twin) Cat's "very-well-packaged".

Any damage to the "Sullom-Voe" Cat's boxes, was "in-store" prior to shipping (after all, they would have been out on the showroom-floor, pror to my phone-call/order), so they might have been previously knocked-about some........

Damaged boxes could happen to anyone, at ANY time (OR NOT ?) = it's just luck of the draw (& the staff who handle, in Transit).

Good Luck, whichever route you take

Re: Shipping from Model Zone ??

When I received my POTR from MZ, I was not to impressed with the packing.

There was no padding at all in side the box (external box) so nothing to stop the contents from moving about.
Lucky enough, all was ok, but the experince did not leave me to impressed.

I recommend you follow Hornchuch's advice and speak to Sarah as it would be a shame to miss out due to fact of being worried about packing.

Re: Shipping from Model Zone ??

I've emailed their branch to enquire as to when it is convenient for me to call their branch & whether I have to call the other number listed on their website to actually make the order. I'm leaning strongly towards ordering the MZ exclusive Malta Hurri and of course, the beloved Lanc that's making all of us so stir-crazy.

Thanks to Hornchurch & Draken Vect for their assistance thus far.

Re: Shipping from Model Zone ??

Model Zone charged me $89 to ship all three BBMF planes to Texas. The planes were well packed since it was a long trip and the models arrived well two weeks later.

Keep'em flying.

Re: Shipping from Model Zone ??

I've had three models from MZ and they all arrived intact. If I remember correctly they came from Croydon.
