What's with Perry's?

Was on Perry's site and noticed that the Swordfish are on sale. Decided to buy one AA36302 for $24.95. Good price go through the process for purchasing and find out its $25.00 TO SHIP! What up with that, some sale, he almost operates like some E -Bay clowns. I get stuff shipped from Europe and Asia cheaper, needless to say I didn't purchase the model and not sure if I will ever purchase anything from Perry's.

Call him Monday. He knows the chipping calc is off sometimes.

Worth a try.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

Exclamation Re: What's with Perry's?

I emailed them last November regarding the shipping of a VR•A Lanc. I heard nothing. About 2 weeks later, the phone rang, and it was Bob (apparently the owner?). He asked me if I was still interested in the Lanc and I said I wanted to know what the shipping would be to Toronto (something that could have been answered via email). When he told me it was $35 I blanched, as the model was already pretty dear. He said he could maybe move to $30. Hmmmm . . . great saving. In the end I said I'd get back to him in another week, as I had a line on one from another place.

Fast forward: No secret I ordered the McKnight Hurricane last week from Perry's. I wanted to resolve that model now, not at the convenience of some eBay seller or a private collector. For that privilege, I paid $54.95 for the model, $25.00 shipping and when I get it, that $79.95 (USD) will bloat again as Revenue Canada will add $5.00 for "Handling" and our glorious Canadian Governments will BOTH ask for 5% AND 8% respectively. End cost for this 'rare' Hurricane will be very close to $100.00 -- and I haven't even done the exchange rate yet (which should be at par).

Now we have the 'wild card' that could also be played. The EXCESSIVE shipping cost that MAY get added, as in the case of Merritec. Perry's has a been known to overcharge on shipping outside of the 'quoted' price once they take your package to the Post Office. This, I also fear.

Fact is, if someone else in Canada or the U.S. had this model, I would have bought it from them in a heart-beat. I bought a Wellington from Aiken's back in January, even though it was $30 more expensive than Perry's. Why? No screw-arounds -- PLUS I would rather patronize square shooters. That whole shipment of the Welly (as well as a Spit and a Lysander) came in at $27 to ship. And Perry wants $25 to ship a frickin' Hurricane? Oh, c'mon, gimme a break!

Perry's? Feh.

Re: What's with Perry's?

Yep here ya JPN I got my RCAF Welly and the McKnight Hurri from him a while back and did a grin and bear it on the shipping. I notice the great prices on a few birds like the Swordfish there but with the shipping and customs charges I will think more than twice before buying. Would definitely love to get the Mynarski Lanc from him but not at that extra cost.

Re: What's with Perry's?

To bad we did not have a place like that around here (beside aviation world lol) that carried a lot of corgi so that we could just have good shiping cost and not having to pay as much as the model is worth!!

Re: What's with Perry's?

Yeah TN I would even settle for a hobby shop in our neck of the woods we could go to and pick up a model without shipping charges but alas "Hard times in the Maritimes"

Re: What's with Perry's?

Placed orders with Perry's several times, usually sale items, but usually items that are impossible to find anywhere else. The last item I ordered from them was a float Swordfish in January, I missed it first time around, so for me it was a matter of not missing it again. No customs or duties, so it worked out to right around $50, which was a price I was comfortable paying. The USPS sticker on the shipping box said $18.75, so while I may have been overcharged a tad (I have been charged more in handling charges from companies in Canada, for items less fragile than a die cast model), it wasn't a deal breaker for me. I would recommend Perry's to anyone who asked.

Re: What's with Perry's?

I've never personally bought from them.....thought about it, but never pulled the trigger. I do however use them to get an idea of what a plane actually looks like because they have good photos, especially for old and rare planes are impossible to find photos of.
