Re: What's with Perry's?

I would have to agree.I have brought a few hard to gets over the last couple of years and found his service to be pretty good.Shipping doesn't really doesn't come into it as he isn't that far off the mark anyway.Plus I like the rolled up newspaper.Great way to find out whats happening in the US

One thing I have noticed is the price of his models which are sometimes under that of Ebay.So the more of these you buy and working on the law of averages the shipping really doesn't come into it.I just think we are lucky to have access to these models.Imagine having to bid for them on ebay and the hassels that are involved in doing that..

Well said MKVB, I agree with your comments and i'm also pleased that i'm not the only person who reads the newspaper packaging!!

Re: What's with Perry's?

I live in Canada and have purchased from Perry's several times. Yes, the shipping prices can be quite a bit higher than other sellers, especially for single planes. However, they have many models which you either cannot find anywhere else, or which are $20 to $30 cheaper than what others are selling them for. If you choose the right models, and if you combine shipping, then Perry's can end up being significantly less expensive than other dealers. Overall, the service has always been top notch and the shipping has been really fast (packages usually arrive here in about 5 days). One more thing - I never pay the actual shipping cost as generated by their online calculator. I always call first with a list of the planes I want and ask for a quote. They always have come up with a shipping price (for multiple planes) that is significantly cheaper than what the website calculates. I submit my payment online, and include an email reminding them of the shipping price they quoted me, and that is what they charge me, regardless of what they online form says.

If I am ordering any newer model, or any single model, I usually go through the Flying Mule. However, for older, hard to find stuff Perry's is tough to beat. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

Re: What's with Perry's?

So is it better to call Perry's and place your order or use his on-line service?

Re: What's with Perry's?

I just bought a Wellington off Perry's and paid $10 for shipping, which is pretty cheap considering the size of the box..

Its best to call for a shipping quote, and then place the order online.

It's obvious you don't live in Canada with shipping only $10! Which one did you get, cause he has a few on some fabulous sale prices? The WS-B one I got just in January(?) was at a very reduced price. The RCAF one still is at a good price too.

Yeah, something like that to Canada we would be looking at $50.00 + shipping handling and fees.

Easily! That Welly box is near-heavy bomber sized! And then there go the great savings, right? -- sucked up shipping costs. Sheesh! I personally think those Wellys are fully worth the cash being asked, though.

Re: What's with Perry's?

At least we know that Perry's does stockpile some desirable models and if we have to bite the bullet on shipping,... well sometimes that's what it takes. I prefer to wait and search, part of the fun after all.

Re: What's with Perry's?

Well I ordered the Alan Deere 1/32 Spitfire from them this past weekend because I needed a mate for the Nicolson Hurricane and I got it for $99 + $30 shipping so that's not bad. Customs will get me too but there is nothing we can do about that the feds have to have their piece of the pie.
