Re: What's with Perry's?

UPS is the worst way to send anything to Canada from the States. The package is guaranteed to go through customs, which incurs a $5 flat fee, 7% goods and services tax on the value of the package contents, and a provincial sales tax with variable rates depending on which province you live in. You can sometimes miss customs if you go by any other courier service, or USPS, that part is a crap shoot, but UPS always goes through customs. Then, to cap it all off, UPS charges a $30+ "brokerage fee" for whatever reason, I haven't figured it out yet and won't use UPS again until I do.

That is SO true. If the only method of shipping is UPS -- INSTANT deal breaker. Period. UPS may be super in the U.S., but shipping to Canada is abysmal!!

Re: What's with Perry's?

Sorry you had to go that route Plane Nuttz. I could have supplied it, as I have an extra model that has yet to be displayed. I just wish I could have gotten to you in time. Your cost would have been $25 Cdn. + shipping. As I reside in Pickering. It would have been a better deal for you. It's a great little model. Paying premium happens to us all. Enjoy your addition.

Thanx all the same. I supposed I should have put an 'APB' within the forum first. I did that for my Welly WS•B, waited 3 weeks and got no action, so I went ahead with the straight retail-route. Another lesson learned.

Oh well. Thanx again, Swoop.

Re: What's with Perry's?

Was on Perry's site and noticed that the Swordfish are on sale. Decided to buy one AA36302 for $24.95. Good price go through the process for purchasing and find out its $25.00 TO SHIP! What up with that, some sale, he almost operates like some E -Bay clowns. I get stuff shipped from Europe and Asia cheaper, needless to say I didn't purchase the model and not sure if I will ever purchase anything from Perry's.

This answers a question I had. My wife got tagged for $25 on shipping from Perry's on my birthday gift. I thought it may have been that much due to the item being rather expensive and one of the hard to find models. I was considering ordering a Barkhorn or Hackl Corgi 1/32 Bf-109 from them, but not with the $25.00 shipping charge.

Exclamation Re: What's with Perry's?

And now to bring my 'Perry's' saga to a close . . .

Today I picked up the McKnight Hurricane from the Post Office. In actual fact, Canada Post delivery was around yesterday (Feb.26) and left a notice, as I was out on client business. That was fast, as I ordered this item on Friday (Feb.22)!

So -- what were the final costs?
• The sales slip in-packed said $54.95 for the model and $25.00 for shipping.
• The USPS Customs form said $55.00 for the model and $17.30 for shipping.
• My Visa bill says $83.24
You tell me. I'll be paying the latter. What I DIDN'T get dinged for (surprisingly) was the Canada Customs $5.00 'Handling Fee', and the combined 13% GST & PST. I have NO idea how I got around that! This package was NOT marked 'Gift'. Hmmmm.

The model was very well packed and arrived in excellent shape all around. It IS a cracker of a Hurricane, especially if you have the Bader one. Is it worth $84+ Cdn? It may be worth MORE as the years go by and these things get scarcer.

This will also be the last time I order from Perry's when you consider the costs to Canada -- AND it could have been worse -- plus the variance in costs documented. I'm not sure if I like THAT so much. Aiken's will be my preferred choice -- at least you get candy, too! Lesson learned, and thanks again, Swoop . I should have gone public with this first.

Re: What's with Perry's?

I want you guys keep in mind too..That the USPS rates have gone up big time..Base on the size of the box 1/32 or 1/72 bombers such as a Lancaster,B-17,B-24 and PBY Cat the shipping can go over the $25.00 range easy.
Skydriver was going to send me a package USPS for a 1:48 Corgi Cobra and it was crazy how much it was going to cost to ship..So we went the UPS way and it was almost half of what USPS was going to charge.

Ooooooo --- UPS. That brings back scary memories for me. Anyone in the U.S. who uses UPS as their only method of shipment to Canada is an INSTANT deal-breaker for me. I understand it works perfectly well within the U.S.A. though. USPS Air Priority(?) is the absolute best, I find.

I found out that it will cost $26.00 to ship a 1/32 plane via USPS priority mail!!! When I checked UPS, it wasn't much different and the delay is 7 days vs 3 days for USPS..
