Re: What's with Perry's?

Ive ordered from Perry's 3 times, all multiple items (2 x 1/32 Spits, 2 x 1/72 Lancs, 2 x Legend V-Bombers.......dilutes the shipping costs down a bit) & have found the shipping costs to be only a few $US more than the Mule's for comparable sized diecasts. I would have no problem ordering from Perry's again

Re: What's with Perry's?

I've ordered from them many times with no issues... shipping is a little slower, and maybe a few dollars more than say TFM, but in general I am pleased with them. Models have always been in pristine shape. Seems the shipping gets jacked when you order from outside the states... ??

Perry's has always treated me right and the shipping price is not bad at all.

Re: What's with Perry's?

I've just checked my emails and i've now done 10 orders from Bob in the last 6 months. I find that getting multiple models rather than one offs makes it quite bearable and no one touches them for those HTF diecasts. I've had a few heavies too, Lancs, B-17's, 1/32 Mossies etc.

I know for international orders he puts a bit extra on to cover his 30 minute drive to the Post office, as well as time to do the overseas declaration form, packaging etc. When I weighed this up with what I was saving on many of the items I consider myself a happy and loyal customer of Perry's.

I don't know what their rates are to the States, but to Canada it's roughly three times that of other online retailers for a 1:72 Corgi fighter. That is more than likely what the complaints are about, and why I only use Perry's for the harder to find/on sale items.

Is it true in Canada when something ships UPS from the states you guys get stuck with a high broker fee or what ever you call it there ?

UPS is the worst way to send anything to Canada from the States. The package is guaranteed to go through customs, which incurs a $5 flat fee, 7% goods and services tax on the value of the package contents, and a provincial sales tax with variable rates depending on which province you live in. You can sometimes miss customs if you go by any other courier service, or USPS, that part is a crap shoot, but UPS always goes through customs. Then, to cap it all off, UPS charges a $30+ "brokerage fee" for whatever reason, I haven't figured it out yet and won't use UPS again until I do.

Re: What's with Perry's?

Yep here ya JPN I got my RCAF Welly and the McKnight Hurri from him a while back and did a grin and bear it on the shipping. I notice the great prices on a few birds like the Swordfish there but with the shipping and customs charges I will think more than twice before buying. Would definitely love to get the Mynarski Lanc from him but not at that extra cost.

Picked up my RCAF Wellington from the Spitfire Emporium in Kitchener for $93.00 tax in. Got the CC Wellington at Modeller's Choice for $69.99.

Aikens, as many have said is a good place to buy if you are north of the border. Only ordered once to try them.

Perry's is a good place to drool over the ones we missed.

I have found that being patient I usually find what I want within an hours drive.

I assume that saves you money, even with the high gasoline prices?

Yes -- you hit the nail on the head. Bingo!
Paying a bit of a premium for a model is understood -- getting reefed for shipping isn't.
