Overseas Shipping Watch Out

Geez, just last week I shipped a friend a Corgi P-47 cost me under 13.00, now since the new changes, The same size plane was going to cost $24.00, pretty massive increase in shipping cost overseas.

Yeah, I just sent two fighters to Australia for $40 (global express -- EMS -- mail). I kind of require this when I sell something overseas as its trackable... and insurable. And a single 1:72 tank, via the same method, cost me $30 to Iceland!

Previously, it cost me $15 via the same method to ship to Hong Kong... watch out is right. Particularly since I posted my shipping rates before the price increase for these auctions, so I ate a few dollars for the ability to track the packages...

Re: Overseas Shipping Watch Out

These prices are going to scare people away from sending them overseas.
The buyer is paying too much for shipping i'll say.

Re: Overseas Shipping Watch Out

That’s rough. You’ve gotta wonder if this increase really will affect overseas’ sales. In fact, you’ve gotta wonder if adjusted shipping prices will affect stateside sales. If this trend worsens (and it will), I have the feeling that more and more collectors will curtail their purchases. And that bodes no good thing for the diecast industry.

Give it another four years, and the topography of our diecast world will change considerably. Maybe.

Re: Overseas Shipping Watch Out

You are seeing the impact of the declining dollar. The last time the USPS rates were adjusted the dollar was near 1-1 with the Euro. Now it is $1.40 to 1. Add in the cost of fuel and that pretty much explains the price increases. As someone who ships a ton of international orders I'm not happy about it but not much I can do. A parcel of ship model to the UK used to cost me $12.00 and it is now $20.

Speaking from the other side of the pond shipping is fast becoming a joke.

It cost me $63 for my last parcel and then the customs charged me $77 when it arrived in the UK.

The cost of the planes was $215 from Bigguns collectables. A really good deal and many thanks phantom ( I highly recommend Gerry to everyone).

So $140 total for shipping and taxes, The customs guys here said pay up or you dont get the parcel.

The shipping I could handle but when the customs guys stepped in I blew my top but there was nothing I could do.
Its not as if we make die cast over here so why the import duty?

What happened to the principle of free trade?

Its just pot luck as to whether the customs stop a parcel, this is the first time its happened to me and hope its the last.

God Bless America.

Re: Overseas Shipping Watch Out

I've noticed that some online retailers have already raised their overseas shipping costs to reflect the new rates . One item I had my eye on (1/48 EI Polish P51B) will now cost approx. $37 to ship (up from the previous $28).

I suspect I'll be purchasing a lot less in future as there is no way my budget will sustain the new rates given that shipping makes up a large percentage of my total diecast expenditure - I'll just have to be more discerning and selective in future .

Re: Overseas Shipping Watch Out

Yesterday I bought a Witty F/A-18E from TFM for US$24.99 and the postage to New Zealand was US$35.30, mind you I guess that is still better than GBP35.30.

Re: Overseas Shipping Watch Out

I thought there were going to be increases, but not in the order of 50%. I wonder if the online stores will honour pre-order postage costs?

Edit : To answer my own question (in part), just checked on TFM, the upcoming Corgi Halifax is actually $US1.00 cheaper to post to Oz by air than it was a week ago. It seems USPS have compressed their scale in favour of the heavier parcels.
