| Shipping US to Canada...recent info
Last edited by Flyguy : 03-16-2007 at 01:30 AM.
Reason: Forgot to include important info.
All: Just finalized a sale of a B-25 with one of our members in Canada. Here's a quick summary of the shipping routine I encountered......hopefully it will be of some help. In checking with the US Post Office the local postmaster advised the best way to ship this (Pennsylvania to Manitoba) would be Air Parcel Post which costs $17.65 (U.S.). Price automatically includes $73.19 of insurance. Shipping time is 4-9 days. They could send it Global Express Mail for $21.95 however the only difference is it would arrive in 3-4 days. (Neither time frame is guaranteed). It didnt appear worth the extra cost. As far as a tracking number the Post Office advised they could provide one but the USPS tracking stops at the border so it would not be of any value once the package enters Canada. The postmaster advised that the package could be tracked in the Canadian Customs system via the tracking number provided on the Customs form you need to fill out when mailing it (the post office will provide the customs form). The Postmaster advised you could go with UPS or Fedex and a tracking number would be available throughout the entire trip but the cost is much higher and the recipient is going to get whacked with alot of charges and expenses which makes this option basically no option. I also marked the Customs form that it was a toy and checked the box indicating it was a gift thus saving the recipient getting hit with further Custom costs. Hopefully the package will not spend a lifetime in Canadian Customs. Flyguy | |||||||||||||

| Re: Shipping US to Canada...recent info Hi Flyguy, unfortunately the post office gave you the wrong information about USPS tracking numbers When I buy from the States I first track the package through the American USPS website to the border. When it enters Canada you have to switch to Canada Post and you can track the USPS package right to your door....no problems whatsoever I do this all the time and it also works OK when shipping to or from Europe. USPS is the way to go as they don't charge brokerage and more often than not it arrives with no customs fees particularly if its shipped from anyplace west of Monkey Depot or California and it goes through Vancouver. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Shipping US to Canada...recent info Gambit Thanks for the clarification on the tracking number aspect. Looks like dealing with the folks at the USPS is the same as any other governmental body as the info you get depends on who you talk to. I'll trust your info as you have the first hand experience with it....thanks again. Much appreciated. Flyguy | |||||||||||||
