| The dirt on Royal Mail U.K. Post I've been doing some hunting and found some helpful info on prices for plane sized packages sent from the U.K. to the U.S. and CA. Thought this might be of interest to some. Airmail: Max size 900mm total size or about 35"" LxWxH (a 1/32 Corgi Spitfire box is 1" too big unpackaged) Max weight 2000 grams or about 4.4 pounds. The avg. 1/72 fighter is about 800-1100 grams or between 1.75 and 2.2 Lbs packaged. Surface mail has the same limits SO.... The average 1/72 fighter should cost about £4.5 or less surface mail and £9.00 airmail (based on 900 grams/2lbs) Might be as low as 740 grams or only £7.61 which is a reasonable weight/price for a small fighter. Insured and signed for mail adds BIG MONEY from £3.50+++ Still not sure about how to ship a 1/32 model or a 1/72 bomber or what the limits and prices are. I'll keep looking. | |||||||||||||

| Re: The dirt on Royal Mail U.K. Post Thanks Parsig for the info. I recall someone on MH1 saying the benchmark should be around 10 GBP for shipping a 1:72 fighter (and possibly medium bomber). Anything else should be considered theft. I've been using that as my guide when bidding on items from across "the Pond." | |||||||||||||

| Re: The dirt on Royal Mail U.K. Post In regards to lost packages... As if being a felony wasn't enough, I cannot believe that any modern postal service seeks to defraud its customers. Before accusing the post office, I would ask myself do I really believe the package was sent to me in the first place? In any case where a package sent to me was "lost" there has always been doubt as to whether the seller even sent it. Any package that I have sent, home or abroad, has always reached its destination, maybe worse for wear and late, but it got there. Now I'm sure things disappear every now and then but I wouldn't call it a conspiracy, more likely some scumbag took your money and ran. Just my $0.02 ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: The dirt on Royal Mail U.K. Post Yer dont live in the UK huh? I forget how many packages are lost in the Uk every year. Hundreds of thousands. Every week I read in some newspaper or other that a postman has been arrested and bags of undelivered mail has been recovered from his house. All of the models sent to me that did not make it came from trusted dealers that replaced them. I have had many battles with the local post office about the dreadfull service. It took me several phone calls and letters before the postman was stopped from just throwing my mail over the wall at the back of my house. Soggy mail every time it rained. Believe me it make you really really mad after a few days of that. Oh yes and the other trick in use is if the postman is in a rush just take the package back to the depot. It sits there until someone ,either the dealer or me rings up to enquire if they know anything about a package. .Maybe in the US you have a better service ,I hope so.
