Anyone here? Hello? Schabak-Collectors?

*cough* *touching microphone*

Now, this is my outing as a (former) Schabak-Collector. I once was really MAD for these, but the fascination is long gone. I had built up a collection of all major European and US airlines in 1/600 scale, but when I dicovered my interest in the 1/100 armour line, I sold all modern (post-1960s) airplanes, keeping only the props and early jets. Then I sold off all the remaining 1/600s and bought Corgi 1/144 instead (Comet, Viscount, etc., the 50s/60s planes). I finally kept my two 1/250 Concordes, but they're also gone by now. Now my house is FREE of Schabak. The poor die-cast quality and the decals were just horrible, and these things were SOOO small. Too much money went for these, should have known better
Now I'm a new man, collecting only quality models in no scale smaller than 1/144!

I think it's some kind of gypsy curse...

Well....they did make a good Air Force One 747-200 in 1/250 scale because a co-worker from work has one and there not too bad for a little plane.
It does have a wingspan of about 10.5 inchs long.
It does look like decals on there too.
Of all the diecast planes i have ever seen this is the first Schabak i have ever seen..If i remember right they are located in Germany.

George Preddy was......Just the greatest fighter pilot who ever squinted through a gunsight.
He was a complete fighter pilot.......Colonel John C. Meyer Deputy Commander of the 352nd.

Their 1/250 planes weren't that bad after all, but the decals really annoyed me. Sometimes they were just badly aligned, sometimes they were torn, sometimes they had turned yellow. If it comes to 1/600 you will soon find out that poor castings and huge metal wheels is someting that you don't really want. Of course, if you want a DC-3 with a wingspan of just two inches and spinning props, there you go...

Maybe it was IXO/Altaya back in the 'early days'. Cutting their teeth, so to speak.

Is that a German word for "Crappy job"?

Re: Anyone here? Hello? Schabak-Collectors?

I have fifty-six Schabak 1:600 scale airliners acquired over three decades of traveling about. I still enjoy them. Part of the fun was the hunt as very few local hobby-shops carried them and selection was hit or miss. The purchase ritual was the careful inspection of each piece prior to purchase to make sure decals were acceptable and all the wheels were there. I have them all on display. At 1:600 it’s not like they take up a lot of room. With Schuco’s acquisition of Schabak I may even pick up a few more.
