| Kotobukiya Modular 1:35 Scale X-Wing (6-Piece Set) Pricey, but it looks like you can make a nice, pre-painted diorama that includes figures, ground equipment, and cutaways, if you are so inclined. HLJ has more photos of this item, which is being marketed like a typical Japanese Candy Toy. Here's a link to an article: Star Wars: Collecting | Koto X-wing Coming Soon | |||||||||||||

"...made of durable abs and pvc materials." As for the price of this item, my guess-timate pricepoint would be around $150 +/-! | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Kotobukiya Modular 1:35 Scale X-Wing (6-Piece Set) Pricing for this item looks really screwed up. Going by the Japanese Candy Toy rule of thumb that each unit box should be priced from $5-10, I would expect the entire 6-piece set to cost about $30-60. However, I'm seeing prices that are well over $200. If you check out the photos in this article, http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/co...icle&sid=3640/ , especially the ones that show the contents of each unit box, you can see how few items are actually contained therein. The biggest piece in each unit box appears to be the section of diorama base. Given that this model is in 1:35 scale, these diorama base sections may be larger than the typical Candy Toy unit box, but that should ultimately only affect the overall size of the display case box in which the six unit boxes will be shipped in. From looking at the contents, I can easily imagine the diorama base section being placed underneath a plastic "egg carton" cradle holding the other pieces, rather than all of the items being polybagged and then sealed into the unit box. There seems to be a lot of talk about master cartons with regard to this model. Usually, with Candy Toys, the master carton refers to a shipping unit that contains x-number of display case boxes. HLJ has been in business for over 10 years, and they usually sell Candy Toys by the display case box, so I just have to assume that there is a tremendous Star Wars-premium being built into the price when they quote a price over $200 for a 6-piece display case box. If I were to break down and purchase this item, either I will end up with a single display case box (just one X-Wing), or a master carton of six display case boxes (and my own squadron of six X-Wings). For reference, comparable items have been sold that do follow the Candy Toy pricing rule of thumb: Takara 1:700 Scale Cross-Sectional IJN Yamato-Class Battleships (Display Case Box: 14 Unit Boxes = 2 Battleships) Takara 1:700 Scale Cross-Sectional JMSDF Kongo-Class Guided Missile Destroyers (Display Case Box: 9 Unit Boxes = 3 Destroyers) Takara 1:700 Scale Cross-Sectional IJN Agano-Class Cruisers (Display Case Box: 9 Unit Boxes = 3 Cruisers) Targa 1:48 Scale Modular Tiger I Tanks (Display Case Box: 14 Unit Boxes = 2 Tanks) Targa 1:144 Scale Cross-Sectional U-Boats (Display Case Box: 14 Unit Boxes = 2 Submarines) Takara 1:48 Scale Modular Zero Fighter (Display Case Box: 10 Unit Boxes = 2 Fighters) Bandai Space Battleship Yamato Mechanic File (Display Case Box: 8 Unit Boxes = 1 Yamato) Purchase of this model could easily make a lot of people p.o.'d. If you purchase this item, make sure that you get a display case box with six unit boxes inside. The unit boxes should all have the same cover art, but there should be a marking or photo to show what components are inside. If you pay full price and only receive a single, sealed (glued) unit box, you have been ripped off, since you are in possession of a randomly selected module from the 6-piece set! A display case box is usually only sealed with tape. Furthermore, a master carton is a brown cardboard shipping box. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Kotobukiya Modular 1:35 Scale X-Wing (6-Piece Set) The complete set is priced in US dollars at $ 265. You do need to factor in a weakening US dollar for past prices. But it still is an expensive piece, I would much rather go with the Fine Molds model after finding out the retail on this one. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Kotobukiya Modular 1:35 Scale X-Wing (6-Piece Set) Considering it's size and all its detail, I'd say $265 is very reasonable. However, I could see how someone with advanced modelling skills might want to opt to build up a Fine Molds version instead. | |||||||||||||
