Star Trek - Johnny Lightning

I recently found in the back of my local model retailers cabinet the 1st series of Star Trek models released by Johnny lightning.

I just wanted to get some peoples' feedback as to whether these are worth getting or not, how collectable are they?... are they a good investment?

He wants around $60Aus for the lot, I scouted around and think this isn't unreasonable, once shipping is factored in from overseas this sours the cheaper online deals.

Any thoughts?

Investment...hmm. Couldn't say for sure. I don't think they have appreciated appreciably since their release.

However, if you like Star Trek, they are nice pieces to add to your collection. They are well cast and painted. I like all of mine.

Re: Star Trek - Johnny Lightning

I'm pretty sure you can still get most of the Johnny Lightning Star Trek collection for close to RRP. I have the original 60s TV series Enterprise and the movie refit version and I think they're great. The Corgi diecast version is just a little more detailed but for the price I prefer the JLs.

Star Trek stuff is fairly solid as an investment choice, if you have time to wait (say 15 or twenty years) you can get a nice little return. I had some action figures from the 1st Motion Picture that I picked up in the mid 80s at $1 a piece in a bargain bin somewhere. They paid for a lot of beers in my first year of college...

The JL Star Trek ships may be a few years away from becoming a really good return on investment....at least from what I gathered from another diehard ST forum, but don't quote me on that. However, the GALOOB Micro Machine sets of Star Trek ships from the early to mid-90's are STILL pretty HOT on Ebay and these command/fetch quite a handsome price! If you like the JL ST ships, by all means get them? You never know what those will be worth in the future.

Re: Star Trek - Johnny Lightning

Thanks people, once i had seen them it was an academic question anyway, as I went back and bought them the next day
I really like them and am keeping them - "on the card", so to speak.
I have already bought all of the three Trek ships released from Corgi. They are awesome and I can't wait for the rest to be released!
Curse Corgi and their sweet siren song!
