Great Reference Books

Over the years I have amassed a large library of books about warbirds and AFVs. Three of the more useful, albeit for different reasons, are:1) "The Complete Book of Fighters" (Smithmark Publishers,1994 )by William Green and Gordon Swanborough. This massive work details the development of every fighter--including experimental types--from WW I to the mid -1990s.There are thousands of photos, color profiles, drawings, etc along with historical and technical backgrounds. ;2) The same authors' "Flying Colors" ( Squadron/Signal Publications, 1981) which describes the evolution of camouflage schemes and presents many color profiles of about 90 warbirds from the Spad to the Panavia Tornado.;And 3) "Soviet Airforce Fighter Colours:1941-1945" by Erik Pilawskii (Classic Publications, 2003 ), a detailed study, supported with numerous photos and drawings, of the evolution of the Red air force's camouflage as developed for each of its major fighter planes. Since relatively little is known about this subject this reference should be of great interest to those who model or collect Russian warbirds. I wonder if anyone else wishes to suggest additional works that might be of value to members of the forum?

How to Fly and Fight in the F-14 Tomcat (Jane's at the Controls) by David L. Rockwell, Tony Holmes.

Sounds like a good bed time read

Good choices; I have Green's multiple volume, large postcard sized books covering WW II aircraft. I also greatly enjoy "Flying Colors", although mine was published in 2001 by MBI, despite the fact that it omits the F-86 Sabre and all jet MIGs before the 21. Strangely, it includes only the P-80 Shooting Star and Canberra among jets that came after WW II through the Korean War.
