Talking Scotland Whups World Cup Finalists, France

What a game tonight at Hampden Park, Glasgow!

Tonight we beat France 1-0. Last week France beat the World Cup, 2006, Champions, Italy.

Hey, don't that make us thetrue World Champions!

" We are the Champions, my friends,
And we'll go on fighting to the end.
' Cos we are the champions,
We are the champions.
No time for losers,
We are the champions,
To the end! "

( sorry Freddie )

I only hope that your jubilation won't last past this Wednesday when Scots will face the Ukrainian national team, which, unfortunately (mostly thanks to the referee) lost to Italy.

Regards,

Sergey

Re: Scotland Whups World Cup Finalists, France

And of course Australia didn't win the World Cup because of those same biased refs

Re: Scotland Whups World Cup Finalists, France

Dear Skunky,

We are discussing, of course, the' Beautiful Game' , FOOTBALL!!!

Americans call it " Soccer ", and one or two sad and beguiled people near the North Pole also refer to the game as Soccer .

However, to the rest of the world the greatest, most popular, most watched, most supported and most skillful game is FOOTBALL!

Bring on the Ukranians!

Does anyone out there know all the complexities of the refinements to the Off-Side rule? I have trouble following who is ' active' and who isn't ' active' when assessing the situation.

Soon Refs will have to hold court on the touchline in order to come to a verdict. I long for the days when football was pure and simple and not tainted with ' Corporate Interests', ' Bungs ' and over-inflated pricetags
on players and managers. Roy of the Rovers never had these problems;
the Ref's decision was final and he played because he loved the game, not money or drugs or supermodels or has-been chanteuses who are really ugly and stuck-up but the world 'worships them', they think so they can sell any old crap on the back of their name.

Let's get back to a pure and simple game:

SCOTLAND FOR EVER....BRING IT ON!!

Re: Scotland Whups World Cup Finalists, France

Cricket is a good pastime on a summer afternoon when you have time to waste.

I have a friend who plays cricket for Glasgow University Staff team. He loves it, even though the game is something of a minor interest here and his enthusiasm certainly catches on, so I sometimes watch.

I do also watch test cricket because there is a very good chance of seeing England get scrubbed.

Johnson wrote :

" There is no finer sight in this world for a Scotsman to behold
than the broad highway to England "

( suggesting that the Scots lusted after any chance to make good in
London, where the streets were paved with gold! )

He was wrong. Rather :

" There is no finer sight for a Scotsman to behold that the sight of
England being trounced by The West Indies, or The Aussies, or
India, ad nauseum..."

I am neutral on these matters, however, and just enjoy the game for the pleasure it invokes..somewhat soporiphic.

cheers,

MoMo

When I lived in the Virgin Islands, the locals would always get the cricket scores from BBC radio. I never knew what the score re-caps meant. But the locals definitely got excited about it!

Dear Trimotor,

Cricket is a religion to most people in the British Commonwealth.

No one really understands anything about it unless you've been baptised with a cricket ball and made communion with the stumps!

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.
