Re: Scotland Whups World Cup Finalists, France

Hey, don't that make us the true World Champions!

MoMo, after the brilliant display of prowess by the England National Team, which tied the perennial favorites Macedonia 0:0, and Wales stunning defensive display against Slovakia (1:5), Scotland is definitely British Isles premier team at the moment.

Sergey

Dear Sergey,

Yes, it's true: we're the tops. It won't last, but we'll enjoy it while it lasts!

I cried when England got kicked out the World Cup this summer.

Boo Hoo!

I was relieved - my national team were an utter embarrasment - on a world stage.......

Only exception to that was Beckhams free kick against Paraguay, Crouch's header against Sweden - and the sublime majesty of Joe Cole's stunning strike in the same game.......... whaddya reckon ?????

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isuqe8IbYnQ

watch it to the end & checkout the camera angles, to admire the quality of the strike......

Re: Scotland Whups World Cup Finalists, France

Sorry, Hornchurch, I've been off line for the past 4-5 weeks ( never listen to Talk Talk's promises! )

I loved the Cole goal. What is the problem with England? Can't they build to a great team? They seem to want to start off as Top Dog every tournament.

Scottish fans know that we are total crap, so when we beat a huge team we treat it as a miracle, not a come-back. England treat every loss as a national disaster and get ready to bomb anywhere in the Middle East to divert the blame and national disgrace away from the real culprits...over-paid chancers with over-inflated egos.

After the fiasco of the 1978 World Cup, when the Scots' egos were as over-inflated as a set of straining bag-pipes with terminal flatulence, we learned our lesson and found that it was more dignified to live with mediocrity and dream of glory by default..when we deserved it, not by right.

Still, tonight's draw with Holland ( 1-1 ) is a decent result for England. Nothing to be ashamed of..Holland are a hard team to beat anytime!

It was a friendly game so it doesn't really matter. Unlike with Scotland and Ukraine, the luck of a draw was on the the English side, and they won't be able to capitalize on that without major drama (Croatia will probably win the group while England will go into knock off stage).

The Media in general make a fuss - more-so those who are football related, that we are actually a team to be taken seriously.......SADLY, THAT IS NOT THE CASE - OUR NATIONAL TEAM ARESHITE (& have been so since the mid-nineties) - 10 years approx.

Mo, don't forget - YOUR ARMY/NAVY/AIR FORCE & MINE ARE ONE & THE SAME !

For "national disaster", read 'national disgrace' (they/ENGLAND, have no right to be THAT BAD & OVERPAID). [/quote].

Suprisingly, there are MANY ENGLISH folks who want Scotland to do well - I've always had a soft spot for the Scots - goodness knows I've spent enough time with them, & I've ALWAYS found them very welcoming (favorable) & kindly in their Homeland (we have friends who live between Newton Stewart & Stranraer in Dumfries & Galloway).

Hope you guys qualify 4 the next World Cup, Mo, & the forthcoming Euro's
I've given up on our lot (but I still love the Ex-West Ham boys - Joe Cole & Frank Lampard (Jnr).

Unhappy Re: Scotland Whups World Cup Finalists, France

Dear Sergey and Hornchurch,

I just dug up an old 45 rpm single I had of Alley's Tartan Army " We're off to the Argentine! "

I play it now and then to bring myself back to the reality of having a crap, but happy, national team!

When the drive-belt in my faithful, very old, Sanssui 222 mark4 turntable wears out, I'll give up.

Very kind remarks about us Scots, Hornchurch. I love the English...I just hate English sports commentators!

I live in the Big Lemon, Glasgow, but we have a holiday home in Galloway, Hornchurch. It's a lovely part of Scotland. my wife and I love to drink coffees watching the mist roll back to reveal the coast of Ireland from Port Patrick. Stranraer is like a slice of life from the 1960s : butchers, bakers, wee gents' outfitters, little cafes with home-made steak pie, etc.

A far cry from the hussle and bussle of the regenerated Glasgow which is, by the way, disappearing fast because of greed and property speculation and ......

I liked the old days.....

best wishes,

MoMo

Shunsuke stunner sinks United

Shunsuke Nakamura curled in a stunning free kick as Celtic beat Manchester United at Parkhead in the Champions League

Yes, the Scots do it again!

Alex Ferguson, the most famous football manager in the world was as sick as a parrot tonight as his team went DOWN!

Celtic won 1-0 and their place in the last 16 teams in the final play-off for the European Champions title looks certain.

I love it when Man. U. get beat. They are the most famous team in any sport on the planet and have hundreds of millions of fans all over the world and their team is valued in the hundreds of millions.

What made it even sweeter was that Man. U. were awarded a dubious penalty at the last minute and it was saved by the Celtic goalie!

Glasgow pubs are alive tonight with the sound of happy Celtic fans.

The view from north of the border,

MoMo

Just call me crazy, but Shunsuke Nakamura surely looks Japanese to me
Manchester United is owned by an American and is valued at $1 Bln. USD
Also, let's not forget that Celtic lost the first game to MU with a score of 3:2

However, I'm happy that both British isles teams will advance to the next round.

Regards,

Sergey
