Peter Jackson---model collector

Director Guillermo del Toro (THE HOBBIT, HELLBOY) said about Peter Jackson (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, KING KONG), "Peter Jackson is such a fan of that historical moment and obsessive collector of World War I memorabilia, and he owns several genuine, life-size working reproductions of planes, tanks, cannons, ships! He has the perfect obsessive reproductions of uniforms of that time for armies of about 120 soldiers... each."
Jackson is also producer of the DAMBUSTERS remake about the RAF Lancaster raid on the Ruhr dams.

One of his 1:1 scale reproduction WWI era aeroplanes like the Bristol Fighter aka 'Brisfit' was used in one of his experimental camera system filming he was toying around with for filming aerial actions for a future "Great War" movie can be seen at You Tube. He is very strict on details and accuracy when it comes to portraying historic war machines in his films. Just look at the gorgeous "Helldiver Biplane" replicas he commissioned for his King Kong movie remake. I can't wait for the "Dambusters" movie when it's finally shown in the theaters. I'm sure he'll introduce some new innovations in that film which will perhaps just blow us away (no pun intended)!!!

Talking Re: Peter Jackson---model collector

Guys, check out this link:

Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre Blenheim, New Zealand

The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre is an amazing museum of WW1 exhibits including a good number of flying examples of the aircraft from that period. PJ is Chairman and owns most of the aircraft there I believe. They have an airshow every second easter with the next one due in 2009 - naturally I will be there with my camera!

I met up with PJ there last year and briefly chatted about his aircraft - he is very knowledgable and like everything else he takes on - deeply passionate about the subject. He owns Weta Workshops which have created many of the realistic displays in the museum & put together some great props for the airshow which add to the theme & sense or realism

Thanks for posting, 11SQNLDR. It's enough to make me wish I lived in New Zealand!

I also sayed a few days just out of Clevelend so i've seen a little bit of Ohio & really enjoyed it

Here is another link of interest detailing a short movie PJ is putting together - about WW1 aircraft!!

That's the movie clip I was referring to my post above, 11SQNLDR. Thanks for posting the link, buddy. In regards to the movie about the WW1aerial battle scenes noted in the NZ Herald article, this was heavily discussed at the Aerodrome Forum by a lot of hardcore enthusiast over there. It was even rumored (for awhile) that PJ was going to produce a movie about the Air War in WWI that would more accurately portray events unlike the movies like Flyboys and Der Rotte Baron have dissmally portrayed in the movies.
