Spreading the Diecast Disease!

Just wondered if this has happend to anyone else who collects. I, of course, have a few of my pieces on display at work, they make good conversation pieces, and many of my co-workers comment on them and oooh and aw over them. Well, now two other co-workers have taken up collecting as a direct result of my display at work, I knew these two guys were doomed the minute they came in my office and saw the planes, they just kept looking at them, and talking about them, and now, they are off and running with their fledgling collections...kinda funny, but now I have more people to talk diecast with!

Re: Spreading the Diecast Disease!

It happened to me. I have a couple helicopters on my desk, and a few co-workers ended up buying some of the diecast. I have a huey and an EC-135 on my desk.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Spreading the Diecast Disease!

Currently work is the only place I can display where I can garantee that little fingures won't be pulling bit off. I have about 20 in my office. I think they all think I'm nuts.

Every so often they will cause a conversation. The best is withthe companies owner. He is still working every day at 86. He has some stories to tell. He was a ferry pilot in the war and regulalry took planes accross the atlantic to the Middle East. Once on their way to assesnsion he got to were they though the Island should be but it wasn't there . They found it in the end with help form the Island control, but he said he had never been so scared in his life. After the war he was a test pilot, but got married and promissed his wife he would give it up

Re: Spreading the Diecast Disease!

I have about 5 Mustangs and Boyington's Corsair in my office on shelves and they always get talked about from all walks of life.
Co-workers at least 4 of them got into collecting them and one even went a little farther by collecting tanks as well.
I thinks it's a good thing to be enjoyed by generations to come.

Re: Spreading the Diecast Disease!

I can't really claim the honor of spreading the disease, but there are two other guys here who collect diecast aircraft simultaneously. The guy in maintenance had an awesome collection of Corsairs on his desk, but took them home after some bozo broke a prop blade. The other guy does armor and aircraft, as well as 1/6 stuff. We talk about our stuff a lot.

Starman, do you actually mean to say that there are collectors out there who don't collect tanks... . Is nothing sacred anymore ... what is the collecting world coming to .

Re: Spreading the Diecast Disease!

I know maybe only two people who collect Tanks only and i thought that was kinda of odd because on the forum there are lot's of Tank and Armor collectors out there.
Beats me why i don't see more armor collectors.
This area where i live has alot of Nascar collectors too.

I started out like this in the early 90's. I think I have almost all of Jeff Gordon's diecast from Sprints to IROC mounts.
