"The Ju-87D-3 was used in experiments with personnel pods, with one such pod carried on the top of each wing outboard of the landing gear. Two people could ride in tandem in each pod, and in principle the pods could be released in a shallow dive, to deploy parachutes for a soft landing. The whole scheme was questionable and though the Stuka was evaluated with the pods, apparently they were never paradropped."

Sounds like it would've been more fun than a rollercoaster ride at the amusement park - the pod people express .

It never ceases to amaze me how much info you can obtain from other people here. Thank you all for the comments and tidbits of info on this very weird modification. I know I wouldn't volunteer to take the pod-drop from a Stuka (imagine doing that in a vertical dive!).

And thanks Wmoser for trying to find some pics of the direction finder I asked about in another thread. I'm glad I am not alone in trying to find a good pic of that apparatus.
