Re: How Do We Get More Big Birds Made?

I've always wondered if any manufacturer would be willing to make some pre-built large/heavies in all-plastic, much in the same manner as MRC does their diecasts. I'd be willing to buy a 1/72 B-1B or AC-130 because the price would be a bit lower than if those were in a diecast.

Re: How Do We Get More Big Birds Made?

I feel that the success or perceived failure of the Halifax(s) when they eventually arrive will demonstrate once and for all to the manufacturers, the viability of large 4 motors. Personally I hope they are successful with all their real or imagined faults, and I've put my money where my mouth is by pre-ordering a Merlin and Hercules engined Halifax. If a decent and accurate Lancaster comes along I will get one to go with S-Sugar. Two B-17s and 2 B-24s and 3 Catalinas also make inroads into my finite space.

Agree with you David, the B-29 deserves to be next in line in that scale. I like my 1/144 Dragon exemplar, but I want something much larger and spectacular.

My next choice would be a Condor, I think, but that's a tough call.

FVD

Condor being German will probably be made long before a B-29.

Re: How Do We Get More Big Birds Made?

All plastic would be good for the heavies. And with extra effort they could be as good or better than diecast. And being lighter I would hang some from the ceiling.

In spite of being focused on the 1/72, I would by 1/100 or 1/144. Again help with the space issue.

I would add a C-46 to the list. And do not forget that Corgi is planning a 1/72 C-47 for 2008.

Cheers,

Ron

Re: How Do We Get More Big Birds Made?

I would love to see a B-29 in 1:72nd die-cast...But man that thing would be a little big to fit in my curio...Plus it would be a little heavy
If they did do one some day they would have to make sure the wings are braced nice and tight.. Due to being long and heavy.
Either that or have really nice plastic wings for it...That may even be the better way of doing it.

Re: How Do We Get More Big Birds Made?

I don't know, is a Stirling really that much less well known than a Wellington or Halifax? What the hay...... might happen!?!?

May depend on how well the Junkers 52 and Halifax do in the next 12-18 months. I will probably have one of almost anything. But, that's what I said about the He-111and Lancaster. Now I have 3 of each.

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

As far as weight/rigidity, I don't think a 1/72 B-29 would be worse that the 1/48 B-17 and B-24 FM makes. Granted, these ARE heavy, but still within acceptable limits (for my set-up anyway).

I don't know, I guess a good compromise would be 1/100, but man, yet another scale...
