Re: How Bad is Your Addiction?

An additional "addict" definition - Addiction can be defined as anything that interupts a major life function - i.e. eating, sleeping, work, etc.

Here's my "addict" questions:

Have you ever called in "sick" in order to be home the day a diecast shipment was to arrive?

Have you ever overpaid for a model - in order to have it NOW - when you could have gotten it cheaper by waiting a few more days and ordering it online? (How much did you "overpay?")

Have you ever sacrificed a meal in order to have the money to buy diecast?

Have you ever made a diecast purchase, knowing that the wife will so pissed she will cut you off sexually for an extended period of time?

[I'm sure I'll think of more.............. ]

All No's except for number 2 -- I'm one of the suckerst that paid $140 shipped for the GMP Texas Longhorn... based on the supposed scarcity of Old Exterminator when the LH was released... Easily my worst "gottahavusnowis" goof.

Re: How Bad is Your Addiction?

In answer to the original question, no to all of them.

BUT!

When I started this hobby I had a list of planes I wanted.
I managed to collect most of what I was looking for,
HOWEVER, the darn makers kept on bringing out one "must have" model after another.
Now that was bad, but then HM came into the game, GROAN!

Now funds are in short supply and that has curbed my addiction, but everyday I ponder how to excuse the purchase of another fine HM model, Kate was the latest.
I mean, whats a guy to do, look at those little iconic flying Barrels, I have just got to have at least one of those in my collection, then of course there is the .... and the ......., well you know what I mean guys.

I just love this hobby so the answer is , yes I am well and truly addicted but I just don't care.

God Bless America.

Re: How Bad is Your Addiction?

I'm not addicted. I don't have any stink'in addictions! I have not had a full time job since I got laid off a year and a half ago. I'm a "consultant" now. I don't even respond to offers from companies that I would have to relocate for the job. How do you "relocate" 1000 plus diecast and plastic models? I can't even fathom how to go about doing it. The cost would be more than my house is worth. Oh, what do I do when then is no more room in a 2000 sq foot house for diecast? The basement just ain't big enough to hold them all !!!!!!! I only buy what I need. Ok, that eliminates about half the diecast models made that's outside my interests. Now, if I was only a millionaire, I could afford all the stuff that does fall within my interests!

Re: How Bad is Your Addiction?

I've been coordinating my diecast arrivals so that they arrive whilst I am at home before work and my wife is at work. But I've never missed a meal or had the wife cut me off. I've overpaid for only one model: my 1/32 OIF M1A1 from FOV.

I did pay about twice the current retail price for IL-2: 1946 last year so I could have several months ahead of its retail release.

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.
