Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

Question: Do any of you guys keep track of your pre-orders?

The reason I ask is, of late, Hobby Master models are flying off shelves faster than you can spit. In some cases they sell out before they hit the shelves, forcing collectors to pre-order models weeks or months in advance (at least in the USA).

The problem comes in keeping track of those pre-orders. Get too sloppy and you might forget you ordered a particular model, where you ordered it, and when it’s scheduled to arrive. Worse, you might order the same model twice without realizing it!

Are any of you organized? Do you keep track of your pre-orders? And if so, how? Share your system with the rest of us!

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

Have to admit that I periodically have to give Pete at Pete's Collectible a call and check on what I currently have on order. Have to give him a call this week sometime, not sure if I put and order in for the third Kate bomber.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

I used to be pretty sloppy about pre-orders but now I keep a running list by vendor, model and manufacturer.

Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

Years ago I would pre-order quite a lot but with the shipping delays it became a real pain in the neck.

Now I only pre-order what I absolutely must have which is only 5 or 6.

Sometimes that will change once I see some actual pictures

Keeping a list might be helpful.

Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

I don't HAVE to be organized as I don't pre-order too often. I have a preorder with Glen's Racers Den, which is awaiting the F3F, and a preorder with the Flying Mule from Waaaayyy back that is awaiting (hopefully not in vain) a particular Corgi Albatros.

Computers are marvelous things for keeping all sorts of records. Saving the email order conformation messages helps.

I can click on a single file and find....... 16 models on per-order.

Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

Me three. I save the pre-order confirmation e-mails.

When they they stay in my file for too long (due to release delays), then I get antsy.

I don't preorder much any more but I do the same thing that leeG, Nockers, and larz do. I have a "Diecast Preorders" folder set up in my email and I put the confirmation emails there as well as the shipping messages. Works pretty well.
