Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

I keep a simple table of pre-orders in a Word document, sorted by date of order, vendor, order number, manufacturer and item.

I have a lot of things pre-ordered so it'd be insane for me not to keep track of them.

Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

I have a spreadsheet of my collections which has a wealth of information from limited editions numbers, who I purchased it from for what price, scale, etc. I have mulitple tabs set up as well - one for aircraft, one for groud vehicles, one for figures, one for wishlist, one for pre-orders and one for items sold - all with a significant number of descriptive fields. My wife claims it is only in my collections and affectation for sports that I prefer cleanliness to sloth. It doesn't hurt that I am a "techie" by trade so it is a rather simple system for me to follow.

Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

I have recently started to keep track. After I received #'177 and #199 of the captured Mustang...

Can we try with real bullets now?

Post Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

Question: Do any of you guys keep track of your pre-orders?

The reason I ask is, of late, Hobby Master models are flying off shelves faster than you can spit. In some cases they sell out before they hit the shelves, forcing collectors to pre-order models weeks or months in advance (at least in the USA).

The problem comes in keeping track of those pre-orders. Get too sloppy and you might forget you ordered a particular model, where you ordered it, and when it’s scheduled to arrive. Worse, you might order the same model twice without realizing it!

Are any of you organized? Do you keep track of your pre-orders? And if so, how? Share your system with the rest of us!

I keep the order confirmation e mail from the vendor in my saved mail

Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

Thanks for your contributions, guys. Great ideas.

Here’s what I do ...

I browse with Mozilla Firefox. Firefox allows me to cut and paste (or drag and place) web pages (their URLs) to a customized toolbar. It accommodates files, too, in which I can paste or drag web pages (URLs). Makes for convenient access.

I plunked a series of month files on this toolbar, labeled "July," "August," etc., through December. In each file I pasted web pages (URLs) of models I’ve pre-ordered.

When I point and click on “July,” say, my pre-order list appears. If I wish to check a model’s availability status, I simply click on its URL. Easy.

I highly recommend it. Considering Hobby Master and Century Wings shark feeds lately, it pays to keep a close eye on pre-orders. Could be you’ll be left holding the bag if you don't order early.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Gee, I've never had this problem where I've had too many preorders to keep track -- good to know I'm not as "sick" as I had thought. Thanks Gort!

The thing I don't like about preorders is that they all tend to ship together even when they're for different brands from different stores so a big pile o' planes hits at once with a big bill, which of course leads to Wifeus Disgruntlelitus.

Better re-think that, Pappy.

Re: Keeping Track of Your Pre-Orders?

I list my pre-orders in my Microsoft Outlook calender w/ a reminder for the expected date. When the due date arrives I get an automatic reminder.

I know better than to expect them to arrive on their due date. They never do! I just know to follow up.
