Niagara Falls

I am taking the family there this weekend and in addition to touring the falls, plan on going to see the butterfly conservatory. From those of you who have been there or live in the area, what to you consider a "must see"?

Re: Niagara Falls

Hi wmosner, I was there in 2004 with my family. The Maid of the Mist boat ride is one of best attractions there. A must not miss part of the itinerary.

Re: Niagara Falls

By all means, see the Falls from the Canadian side. Way better over there.
Besides The Maid of the Mist, there are tunnels that take you right up to the
falling water--be sure to see those.

Re: Niagara Falls

Another "Wonder of the World" that has to be seen in person to be appreciated. Not a fan of 8 hour drives but this one was worth it. Stayed on the Canadian side and the view from our hotel was worth the added expense. Did all the usual touristy things (Maid of the Mist, walk under the Falls, rapids walk, butterfly conservatory) and they were all well worth it. The only negative is the outrageous prices charged by the restaurants, easily double what they charge back here in Maryland.

Drove by a small airfield on the Canadian side that had a Spitfire parked there but did not have a chance to investigate.

.

That's been a complaint here for years. The locals do not go to any of the restaurants in the "tourist" area around the Falls, you have to drive up Lundy's Lane aways to get regular prices. Glad you had a good time, the nicest time to see the Falls I think is in the winter on a cold sunny day. The mist freezes to everything.
The Spitfire you saw was as Dave(SmartD) said the Russel group airfield, the Spit is a wooden static display. There Spitfire and Hurricane were at the Airshow in Geneseo NY the weekend of the 12th. Don't know if the 109 was at there field, it wasn't in NY. Talked to one of the Russel groups people at the Geneseo Airshow and he said the 109 only comes out when the money comes out, so I take it they charge a good dollar to appear at a show.
