If Airplanes were Women

Okay, staying clear of the dogfighting debate, and starting a new thread after browsing Neptunus Lex's site. This is where the Raptor gunsight pics began to appear on the internet, and Lex is still currently serving in the USN. Lex is also a Top Gun trained adversary pilot, with flight time in the F/A-18, A-4, F-5E and F-16N. There's quite a bit in his blog, but here's one particular post I found amusing.

If Airplanes were Women.

As Lex has time in both machines, I found it an enlightning article. Keep in mind the Navy flew the F-16N strictly as an adversary aircraft, therefore it was much more manuverable then heavily loaded Air Force Vipers. The Navy flew them so hard that they had to retire them in the early 90s due to wing cracks. However, the Viper has been re-added to the Navy's adversary fleet from embargoed Pakistani F-16s, which are straight Vipers rather then specially constructed adversary machines.

So folks, along this thead, lets do more of these comparisons.

Intereting site that I hadn't seen before -- the worst day ever story is particularly moving.

Yeah, the worst day ever story is particularly moving. It goes to show the price of training properly, though that accident was preventable...if only they had properly briefed for it. Still....lessons learned in blood...one of the reasons aeronautical regulations are written. This site is an absolute gold mine of information from the perspective of a Hornet driver.

Re: If Airplanes were Women

Was thinking of some of the women I've known and decided to post a comparison of them here.

Charisma (former fiance) would have to be a Mirage III. Svelte, sexy to look at, great at manuvering, but not too much depth, short ranged, rather tempermental, but really shined when she was in a happy mood. Alas, her lack of depth and beyond visual range capability doomed her to constant mediocrity, and her departure characteristics were far from kind, she definately was the type to snap without provocation.

Andrea (last housemate) would be an F-4 phantom. Very good multi role platform (cooked, cleaned, hiked, outdoorsy) not as svelte and sexy as the Mirage, but her strong points made up for her other deficiencies. Unfortunatly her departure charicteristics were like the Phantom, wicked and without warning.

Jenny (recent fling) like a Japanese Zero. Nice to look at, and easy to set aflame once proper manuvers commenced.

Kathi (last fling) likely a Brewster buffalo, long in tooth, an easy victory to an experienced hunter. No real redeeming qualities aside from a certain cuteness in certain areas.

Katie (other fling) would have to be a Wildcat, not too much to look at, but tough, fun and liable to strike without warning, in a positive manner....she's one who would get you home when things were looking bad all around.

Julile. (best ever) An F-14 Tomcat. The best Beyond Visual Range lady i've ever known, sexy, smart, (Harvard PhD) multi talented, great to interact with on all levels. Unfortunately like the Tomcat, she ended up in other hands while replaced by an inferior platform.

Just some random thoughts that popped into my head.

Still looking for another Tomcat type lady.

Re: If Airplanes were Women

I have the ultimate Aeroplane girl, good old reliable Lorraine, I liken her to a P40.

A great all rounder, built to handle the tough jobs (me), powerful, (can plough 5 acres a day), great set of cannons, sturdy undercart, can keep going in bad weather.
Can handle any attack from any quarter, ( I have the bruises to prove it). Can carry heavy loads.

The only drawbacks are a shaky and noisy exhaust (especially after eating too many chocolates), no good at heights, constantly needs repaint, prone to misfires, temperamental on moonlit nights.

God Bless America.

So that's why you like P-40s so much Jim.

Being tempermental on a moonlit night isn't such a bad thing.
