Diecast Stores in Washington DC & Ohio

Hi guys,

I'm making my first trip to the US in 2 weeks time & spending a little time in DC as well as the Cleveland / Columbus areas of Ohio.

Can anyone recommend any good diecast (aeroplanes) stores in the vicinity? Amongst other things, i'm really looking forward to seeing the NMUSAF.& a guided tour of Wright-Pat.AFB

Oh & i'm really looking forward to 3 weeks of northern hemisphere summer as well

Counting down the days...holiday time!!

Cheers - Stew

I wished I knew any good ones in Ohio, and heck I live there (relatively close to Cleveland).

Re: Diecast Stores in Washington DC & Ohio

In Columbus, at Graceland Shopping Center, on Route 23 (High Street) there is a hobby shop called Hobbyland. They have a smallish collection of diecast. Their tel # is 614 888-7500. They also have a store at 6650 Sawmill Rd, 614 766-6410. They have, at least at the store in Graceland, a few Armour aircraft, a decent selection of MRC, a number of Dragon models, and also quite a few Model Power models. Also a number of tanks, but I've never paid attention to those. Oh, and also the occational WW I Carousel 1.

Good morning 11SQNLDR,

If your itinerary includes visiting New Jersey, there's a great hobby shop in Mount Holly called "AIR Hobby Shop" that has a great selection of diecast (as well as plastic models and aviation artwork). It's close to McGuire AFB and the Air Victory Museum.
Speaking of plastic models- if your plans include a visit to Virginia Beach, VA the IPMS Nationals are being held there from Aug. 6-9.

Make sure you stop by the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles Airport just outside of DC - an absolute must see for any airplane enthusiast.

Re: Diecast Stores in Washington DC & Ohio

I am only aware of two diecast stores in the DC area (other than the slim pick'ns at the Air & Space facilities, both downtown and at Dulles). They are Hobby Works in Fairfax, VA (LINK) and The Toy Exchange in Weaton, MD (LINK). The first of these has a smattering of Corgi, Gemini Jets, Dragon (Warbirds and Wings). The latter used to carry Corgi, but I'm not so sure anymore. Frankly, as a DC local, I get almost all of my diecast online.

Re: Diecast Stores in Washington DC & Ohio

There is a hobby shop in Old Town Alexandria (just across the river from DC) that had a good supply of Corgi the last time I stopped in. Rather pricey as I recall.

There is also a shop in Chantilly, not far from Dulles Airport, that has some limited diecast, mostly 1/48 and a bunch of Easy Models.
